These were supposed to be the latest thing when we got them several years ago.

Larger, decorative flower pots
- that appear to be made of some thick
(but light weight considering the size) form of plastic/ Styrofoam.

Well I plan to paint these and RE- use. But several have small cracks on/in the bottom.

Could I use some of that putty like "glue" material to press into the cracks to reinforce - so the pots will last at least another year??

Also using the small bottles of craft paint.
If all paints were not specifically "Outdoors" ,
- must i also do 1 or 2 coats of polyurethane??

advice please.

How about silicone to seal the bottoms?

Acrylic craft paint won't hold up well outside, and I've heard it will fade in sunlight even if you seal it well. I've used "Patio Paint" from the craft store that holds up even in a fountain- that might be your best bet.

Hi Janice,
A lot of craft material here comes from the U.S. I just noticed my scented oil candles brand name Glade also from there
I heard your large hardware store Lowes is coming down here later in the year they might have to change the name because we have a mens wear store trading under the name Lowes.
It will be interesting comparing the prices you pay and we pay.

I recognize some of the craft paints I use. I think if I'm going to try more painting I may have to buy more.

Oh, I go to Lowe's often with DH. We buy all our lumber, etc. there and of course I'm always in the plant section. I never thought I would go into a Home Improvement Center, but after we bought this house I became obsessed about going. Told DH, he doesn't dare go there without me. Comparing prices is what I like to do.

50Glee I'm sure I have some of those flower pots you are talking about. I love them and so far haven't had any problems with them. Haven't tried painting them either so I couldn't tell you what kind of paint to use. Please let us know what you use and how they turn out.

I did my garden sign in outdoor paint, but the darker green around edge I did in craft paint. Will be in sun all day so I hope it don't fade.

Oh Elaine you will love Lowes.. We usually make a visit to Lowes once during the week and then 2 or 3 x on the weekend.. Now, My best friend who lost his house during Katrina ( that big/ugly/nasty hurricane) he use to make so many trips to Lowes each day to order supplies or take back things that was the wrong size or color.. When the house was finally finshed, he hasn't set another foot in there.. He got burned out.. lol.. Plus I think it brings back bad memories for him.. :-( I myself would rather visit Lowes than Walmart, anyday!!!

Yep, have a couple of those Glade candles myself.. :-) Yea it would be kind of fun to compare prices... Do you by chance remember the price for the small bottle of folk art paint was? I just bought a few new bottles the other day and Im pretty sure it was the folk art brand, I will have to see if I can find my reciept.. Off the top of my head I don't recall the price but Im sure I can find my reciept some where.. :-)

So sorry about your friend It must have been so hard to loss every thing and have to start again the good thing is good memories are always in our minds and hearts for ever.Hope a lot of good luck has come to him since and he has long happy life .

I don't know how to post a link , but go to stained glass and mosaics forum and look for the thread posted by gordo . she uses a paint for metal and outdoor signs . I bought some of it and it was about 8.00 dollars a pint . I have a lot of the craft paint and believe me , this is cheaper by far . I googled it and bought it online . digger

oh dear... How big is that bottle of folk art paint? Was that for a whole set or for one bottle??? Girl if that was for one bottle.. I may have to send you some paint thru the mail.. lol.. I just bought some 2 oz bottles the other day.. Some folk art and some Apple Barrel. The apple barrel was either 37 cents or 47 cents and I was thinkin the folk art was 57 or maybe even 87 cents but not over that.. I believe the metallic colors were maybe a $1.37 a bottle.. OMG and here I was #iching in the store the other day because the price of it had went up.. lol.. Im sorry if it was $7.50 a bottle I would be using that stuff like it was gold... My youngest (9yrs) loves to paint little ceramic figures (sold right by the paint) they are like 42 cents each.. real cheap and it gives her something to do when mom is busy crafting other stuff.. Anyway when she paints, she globs out huge amounts of paint in her little paint pan, so what we do now, is any of her left over paint, We stick it in the freezer (the little paint pan thingy) then when she is ready to paint again, she just takes it out and thaws it.. lol..

Ouch, all those extra taxes really makes the paint expensive. But, I've never found it as cheap as Janice does. Haven't looked at paints in a long time, I'm sure they have gone up. Our sales tax went up a while ago and that makes us one of the highest sales taxes around.

Going to go out and check some of those large pots and see what they look like. Just so hot the last couple of days I try to stay inside.

Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't stop to think you might not know what I was prattling on about. hehe.

Okay- let's do this again.

Point your mouse to the address (that's the URL) that's at the top of the thread you want to make the link for. Click once, and it should be all colored. (highlighted)

without clicking anything else, press and hold your "Ctrl" button and press your letter "c" button with the "Ctrl" button still pressed. That will copy whatever is highlighted. Release both buttons.

Then, click the reply box where you are going to put the link, and again press and hold "Ctrl", only this time you'll press "v" instead of "c". That will paste the link.

Give it a try!

(edited because of a spelling error that was driving me crazier.)

I use craft paint for everything outside, the cheapest I can get at walmart. I did a mural on my fence in 2003. Here it is still. This pic was just taken of a bracket I put up and my wind chime, but that paint is from 2003. I will show you the original too.

I love the view.. you should hire yourself out, I bet you would have plenty of work out there painting those walls..

You can come right over and paint one on my brick fence. My bricks aren't pretty, just the ugly grey and when I look out my kitchen window I can see it. No artistic talent here, but thought I would love to do some kind of painting on it. It really is pretty.
