I have several of these growing around my house. Everyone that see them has a different name for them. At the end of the summer it drops small balls on the ground which make new plants.
Some of my friends have tried to grow them but to now avail. Can anyone help me.

Crinum Asiaticum. You can tell by both the spidery flower and the large wavy edged leaves.
