My husband and I are new to gardening, and we started the spring in an organized fashion, but then he started throwing seeds everywhere.
There was a plant about 3 feet high, and I asked him what it was, so he dug it up. He thought it was a carrot, but I don't think the leaves match. Is it just a weed?

Looks like Phytolacca americana, Pokeweed.

Yikes. I read about pokeweed online, and it's poisonous. Is it dangerous to dig it up? Will my cats try to eat it?

It is mildly toxic (edible when cooked). It should be easy to remove.
