Does anyone know what this critter is? About 20mm long, it can run backwards as fast as it can forwards. What would be its food source and is it beneficial or pest?

This insect is in the order Embioptera. Known as webspinners, they are believed related to termites, but do no damage; their silk glands are in their swollen front tarsi. See http://tinyurl.com/ml7bdk for images and more information.

Thanks for that Suunto, being wingless I assume this one is female.
