I was originally going to put 'Giving gardening "the bird" ' but I didn't want to offend anyone, and in any case I didn't want the negative connotation so I changed it.
Actually he was a little ticked off because his feeder, which he is looking at, was just overridden by house wrens. Made me a little mad too since they also took over the bluebird house...or tried to.
HI Sharran,
I know a fair bit about ticked off birds - Here in Adelaide, we have the Red Wattlebird ( http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/finder/display.cfm?id=8 ) - very aggressive and noisy - these guys will gang up on, and scare away, many birds twice their size, but they get particularly irritated by the small flocks of the New Holland Honeyeaters ( http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/finder/display.cfm?id=12. ) which don't seem to be at all intimidated and give back as good as they get. Sometimes my back yard is entirely TOO reminiscent of Hitchcock's "The Birds", LOL!
Birds are so funny.
In the back yard I have lots of finches, house wrens, blue birds, chickadees, cardinals and robins. The house wrens are most aggressive, and also the hummingbirds, but the hummers only fight among themselves. The cardinals and robins are peaceful and rarely ever argue about anything. Nor do the bluebirds.
But in the front yard I have a mockingbird that drives the cat next door nuts. They live to taunt each other. The mockingbird calls the kitty out, meowing just like she does. The cat comes out to my yard, and lies down flat in the grass with her white tipped tail in the air. The bird swoops and tries to get her tail, she jerks the tail down at the last minute and the bird starts screaming...they do this for hours, and it can become quite loud. I can hardly go out the front door without dodging a swooping mockingbird, screaming at Cupcake the cat's tail.
It is a zoo out there...yes, Hitchcock comes to mind here, too.
Lovely birds you have there, KK. Thanks for the links.
We have a humming bird in our backyard named Guido. He makes sure none of them other rif-raf hang out at that there humming bird feeder. That is, unless you're an ugly female bird in which case I will come have a drink with you. Else - git!
The other birds? Just keep them away from our strawberries and peaches.
