Hello! I bought a packet of mixed wildflower seeds, and this is my favorite flower from it so far. I just recently collected some seeds, and I have been searching for the ID in my wildflower books. It looks like a cosmo or coreopsis, but the leaves look similar to a marigold. Any ideas?

yellow cosmos for sure! It's a different species from the usual cosmos, easy to grow from seeds but is less easy obtained from the floral trade for some unknown reason.

oh I forgot - don't call it wildflower - that's the second biggest fake name - they always call seed mixes "wildflower mixes" thought it doesn't have a ounce of native in it and some are invasive like Dames Rocket - wild bird seeds is the number one worst fake name at least for the Eastern United States - attract house sparrows and blackbirds more than other bird species.

Oh, neat - a cosmo! I like it so much more than the "tame" purple cosmos I planted this year. I wish I could capture the color with my camera, but it is a bright orange, almost like an orange traffic cone, except lighter. Do you think that is an unusual color?

Not unusual - like I said a different species from the more common cosmos
