| That plant looks so familiar but I just can't bring a name to mind! The foliage resembles Stephanotis but the flowers aren't quite right.
edited to ask: How large is the plant, is it a a shrub or tree?

| I think it might be Osmanthus fragrans. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1450/
More images: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=osmanthus fragrans&u...
Well, it might not be O. fragrans but it sure resembles Osmanthus. There are 24 listed in Plant Files: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/b/Oleaceae/Osmanthus/none/c...

| Themoonhowl: I think you may be right, it could very well be Ligustrum and not Osmanthus. Ligustrum is very common down here in Florida. Mine bloom in spring and they are fragrant: http://www.floridata.com/ref/L/ligu_jap.cfm There's another one that is very much like Ligustrum too that has darker green leaves but very fragrant blooms that look like Ligustrum but I can't think of the name of it.
The flowers in cocoloba's photo do look more like Ligustrum! In the photo I thought the leaves looked too large and now I'm thinking it may have been the photo was enlarged. My eyes aren't the greatest when it comes to identifying from pictures.
Check out these Ligustrum photo's: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=ligustrum&um=1&ie=UT...
And a few listed in Plant Files: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/b/Oleaceae/Ligustrum/none/c...

| Ligustrum/Privet is one of my allergy triggers...I am getting much better at identifying it.
I know what you mean about ID-ing from pictures. I am always amazed when someone looks at a blury shot of something and says with complete assurity...Oh that is...bifocals don't even help...grin |

| Thank goodness I don't have too much of a problem with seasonal allergies. My sister who lives in N. Georgia has problems every spring and fall and has to take meds at times to combat the symptoms.
"Sweet Viburnum" is the other plant I couldn't think of that we have in our yard ... looks similar: http://www.floridata.com/ref/V/viburn_o.cfm

| Somehow I knew that was what you were thinking of as it also occurred to me at first glance. I am pretty sure that this picture is a ligustrum though.
It messes me up so badly I wrote and posted an ode to it in the jokes section...Ligustrum is not my friend. |

| I have checked the various links but do not see any that are really like my plant...I cut it back very severly in the spring but I see it has a bloom already - I will take a close up, I do agree that the leaf is very like stephanotis but the bloom is extremelly different. |

| I'll go out on a limb and suggest Black Torch, Erithalis fruiticosa. Can anyone else confirm this? |

| Not sure what it is, but definitely not Ligustrum nor Osmanthus; they both have 4-petal flowers, and this has 5-petal flowers.
Not familiar with Erithalis fruiticosa so can't really comment on that.
