Five years ago I moved from the Atlanta, GA area to Northeast Florida (Nassau County). To my delight (and my Japanese maples' delight also) there is no infestation of Japanese Beetles here! Now I wonder what is the reason (not that I am complaining, you understand) for the lack of the population here. Salt air? The humidity and temperatures here are comparible to Atlanta in many ways. Does anyone know the answer?
Japanese Beetles are believed to have entered the country through the port of New York. If you look at the map, you see they are spreading south and west.
