I can't recall ever seeing Agrostemma grown ornamentally in this country. I first saw white corncockle in England, in the garden at Baddesley Clinton. The flowers looked like butterflies hovering above the other plants. I resolved to grow some, although it took me a couple of years to identify the plant. My next encounter was at the Pacific Flora show in Hamamatsu, Japan, where I saw different colors - white, rose, and lavender. I finally have some seedlings about to bloom, only ten years after my first sighting.

For years Thompson and Morgan showed Agrostemma in their catalog, with a disclaimer that they could not sell the seeds in the U.S. Renee's also sells mixed colors.
