Sharon, I just love reading your articles about Aunt Bett and Ninna and your Mother. When I lived in Pennsylvania, I had several gardens, and one year, we planted marigolds around the perimeter of one of them, because several people told us it would keep the rabbits away from the lettuce and the Brussels sprouts, and other stuff that's attractive to those of the bunny persuasion. Well, the marigolds didn't work, but we got most of that crop that year, anyway, because we discovered that there was something better...actually, two somethings. The six foot black snake patrolled all of the gardens from the tomatoes on the terrace, through the strawberries, along the flowers, then out to the "rabbit food". A few days later, young Mr. Bald Eagle paid a visit and we did not see any bunnies for HOURS. He actually hung around for a while, looking for some territory of his own. A few years later, a pair of Marsh Hawks moved into the area, so they helped out the cause, too. We eventually moved on to some of the companion plantings that you mentioned above, also.
