And whatever happened to Billy? We had ferns, bracken ferns, in our woods - actually they grow in clearings at the edge of the woods.

But I never thought of eating them.

So sweet! Sometimes we need level headed Billys to save us from ourselves :-)

Hi Gloria,
Billy is doing very well, though I haven't seen him in a long time since he lives many miles away. We do keep in touch occasionally. A very nice man.

I have nibbled a lot of ferns, think I was worse than deer and rabbits. The thing I remember is the little coils of the new shoots were the tenderest, though they are pretty bland. I'd let the cold water of the mountain stream wash them, it ran just below the cliff overhang. So I ate the ferns cold, never did eat them cooked, even if others did.

Thanks for writing, glad you enjoyed it.

Hi Jadajoy,

You are right, especially me. And he usually did, save me, I mean.
Thank you.

Very sweet story. I love getting up in the morning and reading these stories and articles with my cup of coffee and my babe in arms. A true life pleasure. This one was particularly uplifting. Thanks for helping to set the tone of my day.
