I have been asked to start this thread. I guess I should not be surprised about the interest in donkeys. Those of us that have owned, known or wanted a donkey will know the feeling of looking into those BIG brown eyes and stroking those beautiful long ears. They are an intelligent loving animal that are a great addition to the family.
The Mammoth donkey is a product of many breeds of donkeys from around the world and developed over the years in the USA. They were bred from Maltese, Poitou, Andalusia and Catalonian breeds. The Mammoth as you might suspect is the largest of the donkey breeds. To be listed as a Mammoth donkey, regardless of breeding, a jack should stand 56” and taller, the jennet 54” and taller. The tallest known Mammoth stood 17 hands. One hand is 4".
Now friends, please include your memories of donkeys and mules in this thread. The photos of wild Arizona donkeys is what sparked this, so please MORE PHOTOS!
