This is metal with a blue glass insert, and wooden handle. Could it be a welder's shield?

I guess it could be, it makes sense with the dark blue glass but would be hard to hold it and weld at the same time. For some reason it reminds me of something to do with photography, too, but I really can't place it. Interesting.

I did find some photography equipment that looked pretty ancient.
