Hi ,
The hardest part of coconut art is cleaning all the fiber of use a wire brush but it takes a lot of time
then gentle sand paper and polish with oil .-------------Sammut

I don't think you really need to do anything to preserve coconut shells. They last a long time but do get weathered and gray in color over time. I guess you could spray it with a clear sealant if you wanted to, or even spray paint it to keep it from looking faded. I have a "woodpecker" carved coconut planter that a neighbor brought me back from their travels about 5 years ago. It's been hanging out in a tree in the backyard all this time, with wind, rain and our humidity and it's still fine. I will go take a picture of it .. be right back.

I have already gotten the meat out. I want it to look natural, like a hanging coconut. I dont want it to rot over time with regular waterings

Here's my woodpecker coconut planter, maybe I should take the bromeliad out and paint it with bright colors ... it would look a lot better.
