Have a 20'x40' pool...planning on using planters and planter beds around area. Any ideas?

I can tell you what to avoid -- anything that frequently sheds petals and/or leaves.
Personal experience with crepe myrtle blossoms... Extremely hard to keep the pool clean.

Here's a list I ran across--it's for Arizona but I bet most of these would do OK in your area too.

Also think about whether you want a little shade in one area. It would be nice to have a tree or shrub that gives you a little buffer and creates a little reading nook.
