Sunshine! the sun is shining and only one day this week looks to have rain. We were at a grad party on Saturday night and Stan ended up holding the center pole of the tent while everyone else ran for the house - wind and heavy rain were bringing it down. He got out safely and we all stood around dripping for the rest of the party!

Good morning!

Another sunny day, light breeze and 57F at 9 am ... forecasted high in the low 60's :-)

I know this seems really strange to the rest of you, but in temps above 70F we can barely move ... we're used to a very cool nip in the air all the time, without it we just melt away! lol

Ric- thanks for those links! Very interesting places to visit! I've actually been to Ruby Falls, but I'd forgotten - thanks for the reminder. I travelled with my family to Cherokee, NC while we lived in Florida and on the way back, we drove through Tennessee, saw Rock City I think it's called and Ruby falls ...it was a really great trip :-)

More travel photos :-)

On day three we drove up to the longest glacier in Iceland, aptly named Langjkull (Long glacier) ... it was a very warm day, but we cooled down real quick when we got out of the car by the glacier! lol

Rann I'll have to see of we have any 'See Rock City' bumper stickers still hanging around.
They used to plaster them on all the cars in the parking lot till the 60's.
Now they put them under your wipers...
We were last down there in 82 for the World's Fair.
We stayed right on the lake about 30 minutes from Lost Sea.

You would love it here this morning.
61 degrees w/ a light breeze.
Course I was freezing when I went out...lol!
It will hit 85 later..

I'm behind again!
Just want to say to Kelli: the amaryllis seeds are sprouting (I floated them in water) but is that the root or the stem--I don't know which way to plant them! LOL Am I ignorant or what? The stem or the root, whatever it is, is white which is the reason I am unsure about it.

Oh, and Bernie--sorry about the glads--maybe somebody else will want them for a later wedding?

Still hot, still no rain- Oh, look, I see a rain cloud--there is always hope! Come on over here, rain! Hooray--it's actually raining--oh, happy day--I hope this keeps up all day!

Currently, raining and 80F on my back porch.

I'm off to the dentist this afternoon for the other half of my root canal. Ugh!
Hope you all have a good day!

Rusty, I hate waking like that. Takes awhile to go back to sleep! LOL

Speaking of loud noises...Darrell and I were looking out the BR window yesterday watching it start to rain when a HUGE bang and flash happened. Dang, that was loud! Lightning hit a neighbors tree about 5 doors from us. Both cats levitated and then teleported...somewhere. We didn't see them for awhile.

Sharon, thanks for the new thread. Hoping for cooler temps and rain for you.

Rann, I understand about the girls being too hot. You get used to whatever is normal for the area. Love the girls. So great to see them.

JW is getting giganimous!!! I remember when he was just leaning to walk. Now, he's all over the place.

Ric, such a tease! LOL

Me, too, Marylyn--about what Celia said--LOLOL!!!

Our rain didn't last all day but at least it did last for about an hour! The grass, flowers and trees all said "Thank you!"" I could almost hear them "slurping" up the rain!

Root canal is finished--now then the crown is next but that will have to wait until next month. I've had enough of the dentist for a while!

The rain was great but things are back to normal again--hot and muggy!

The left side of the addition is a double garage. The other is going to be a bathroom & entryway.
There will be a second floor which will be a new master suite. Also a master bath & a small room that connects to a small bedroom in the existing house.

Marilyn, those look like neat toys. What age group do you think they are suited to? BTW, the white things coming out of the amaryllis seeds are probably roots. I think that's how it works with most seeds.

Adina, if you are wondering about the critter in your photo, it is some species of sphinx moth.

An absolutely beautiful day! Jean and I went to Western Garden and she got a pretty pink double coneflower. I'm jealous now that I've seen it n her garden. She also got Corsican mint, a pretty dark Coral Bell and two colors of creeping speedwell. They should fill in her shady spots nicely.

I picked 2 trailing Sweet Potato vines, Blackie and Sweet Caroline, and Orange Symphony Osteospermum for a hanging basket.

It was 82 and slightly breezy. A perfect day to plant.

Fog will increase across northeast Florida and southeast Georgia through the early morning hours...with visibilities generally lowering to between 1 and 3 miles. Localized dense fog will reduce the visibility below a half-mile. Motorists should drive with extreme caution while driving through fog. Use low beams...reduce driving speed...and allow for plenty of room between you and other cars. You can overtake another vehicle quickly in poor visibilities...so slow down and drive defensively.

Sharan, thanks for the new thread :o) I think I can catch up, LOL!

Kathleen, having to hold the tent pole must have been a bit scary for everyone!

Marsue, we've been praying for no rain, LOL! It brings mosquitos!

Rann, the girls are adorable! I love the white River Photo!

Rusty, at least you knew a good storm was brewing. I hate sleeping thru one, especially for a good rumble of thunder!

Kwanjin, love the description of the disappearing cats, ROTFL!!! I'm glad it didn't hit your place! Nice! I love being able to get those tiny quick butterflies!

Kelli, I'm so glad we're not brutally hot.

Marsue, I have 3 root canaled teeth. I hear you!

Bernie, I envy the new rooms and garage. That is a lot of hard work!

Pepper, don't let that heat up here!!

Ric, I agree, we're to be in the low 70's the rest of the week. I'm getting the Spring I missed and I love it!

Adina, lovely Zinnias!

Sharon, love the action shot!

Rusty, I hope selling the house goes well.I hope the tree comes down easy too. I have a daylily just like that, but no name for it. I just call it Adeline's Orchid, for the woman I got it from.

Mau, love the tiny motorcycle!

Rann, Bicolor is a nice color. I bet it really shows up in the garden.

I usually have a clearwing too. They are so unusual here, and fast. It's hard to get a good picture.

Kelli, Glad things aren't Too terribly hot for ya! ;) I thought about your Koi today..how are they doing?
Celia, Sounds like you had a heap of fun 'flower shopping' yesterday! LOL! at the 'green bean tiara'! Great shot of the Sun Flower! LOL! About your cats! Jack likes to hide under JW's bed! And yes, JW is all over the place! ( I stay rather pooped when I keep him...but it's a happy sort of tired!)
Sharon, LOL! Garrett calls getting his teeth cleaned...getting them 'tickled'! He's called it that since he was little. :) And Prissy doesn't look like she's enjoying her company! She looks as if she wants to say, 'Does Callie really have to be this close?' or 'Yes, you caught me sleeping with the cat!' So funny! And LOL! about 'Jack's Path'! He does have it fairly worn down! :D
Adina, The more pics that you post of your gardens, the more I love them! :D
Mau, at least the worst of the dental work is finished! I've never had a root canal done before...hope to never have one! From what I've heard from folks is that it's certainly not much fun. Glad that you got some rain...As hot as you've been down there, I'd say you could use some more! I do believe your DGS is good making things w/ his hands! Great Job! At this point all JW does is put rocks in his pockets! He has a collection every day & if you don't check his pockets...put it this way...I've washed rocks! :D
Bernie! You sure did a huge amount of work in a short time! It's gonna look Great!

I can't remember who asked, but I still call JW, JW. Everyone else calls him Joseph...& since he doesn't do too many 2 syllable words..he calls himself Joe.

Sharon, when Monty and Isis were first together, I caught them sleeping side by side. Isis looked around, saw Monty, hissed and ran away. I don't think she meant to be there! LOL

Sharon, Isis gets paid in kitty treats and doesn't think I pay her enough! LOL Prissy is so adorable. You lucked out on all the cuties.

Ric, more and more I wish you lived closer so you could help us. ^_^

All the rain went south of us.
We started harvesting Green Beans and put 3 quarts in the freezer.
Not a lot but we didn't plant a lot...lol!

Did a little prep work for the new deck and went shopping.
Tomorrow it's a road trip for the last of the stuff we left on that remodel.
Borrowed a jeep and trailer so we'll hit HD for some bit items also.
NOW it will rain... lol!

Another pretty day. 91 .

Darrell came home and we talked for while then he wanted to go out to eat. We headed over to a mall very close to us and he says, "Oh, by the way, they had a car show at the mall." Wait a minute! Now you tell me? Home we go to get the camera.

58*F this morning and had some rain last night. We are losing daylight; down from 24 hours, to 21hrs/41minutes .
This has been a wonderful summer, weatherwise; the wildfires have messed up the view with smoke filling the valley, but hopefully, the rain will help with that.
There are too many for comments at this time; but as ususal, lots of busy people here.

Kiska, Thanks, I can only seem to get a good pic when he's movin', because sitting still is not possible for him! ;) Love the currents! They look very tasty! :D
Adina, Love the new 'toy'! It will save you a lot of time outside. ;)

Well, I'm behind again--can't comment on everything. Yesterday I spent the day with one of my granddaughters--she turned 11 and I took her to lunch and shopping for her birthday.

Celia: Love Isis' new "crown" LOL great classic cars and I love purple, BTW even on an old car--LOL
Joey: I must have missed the photo of JW--drat!
Adina: pretty four o'clock and nice sprinkler--beats holding the hose and watering everything yourself! :o))
Kiska: pretty currants!
Rann: love the photo of Hildur Eva smelling the flowers--so sweet! Looks like Selma had a friend over to camp-out?
Ric: the Big Dippers are growing--I'll try to get a pic for you later.
Kelli: I think I have planted the amaryllis seeds upside down--Whoops! LOL

We had another shower yesterday afternoon--the third in three days--oh, happy day!! Due to the cooler weather and softer ground, I was able to get in about 2 hours of weeding yesterday morning before I took my DGD shopping. The weeds were taking over my flowers but no more!!

Currently 71F heading for a high of 87F--much cooler than the high 90's we've had lately!!

Yesterday on my way home from shopping with my DGD I stopped and took a photo of this old barn. I've been wanting to take a picture of it for a while now and finally got the opportunity. This barn is about 5 miles from where I live and it is less than one block off a major highway in our area.

Today has been absolutely gorgeous! It is "only" 84F right now which is considerably "cooler" than the 95+ temps we have been having in the afternoons lately. I don't know how much longer this cooler, less humid weather is going to last but I'm enjoying it while I can. Tonight I will even get out the riding mower and take a turn (or two or three) around the yard! 68*F - we've had rain; much needed after the warm weather of the past few weeks.
The twin bull moose spent some time in the back yard this morning; they must have stepped into the woods to take a nap; they've came back to the yard this afternoon, wandered slowly to the neighbors' yard; I can hear their dog barking so assume the moose are still there.
kelli~I love that you've named the fish~
Rann~HildurEva/flowers is a precious photo. Glad the girls had another good night of camping.

Ric: neat shot of the sky--looks like a giant eyeball staring at you! Have a great day on the garden tour--the weather sounds great. The deck is looking good--you should do a video "tour" of it and post a link for us to watch.
Kiska: Moose surely are ugly looking critters but I'm sure they have their purpose here on earth, too. Of course, they might think we humans are ugly critters--"beauty is in the eye of the beholder"--LOL

This morning was delightful--a nice cool 59F at approx. 7:30 a.m. I drank my coffee while sitting in the porch swing on the back porch. Friday and I enjoyed being outside in the cool of the morning. 69 cloudy and breezy! It was 55 when I got up at 5:45 am! It's been in the 70's all week and 55 to 60 at night. I weeded all day yesterday, in jeans and a sweatshirt, never pushing up the sleeves once. Crazy, but I'll take it. I'm getting my spring work done!!

I have been making free piles all week and they disappear over night. I'ts making a lot of room in the beds so I can move other plants around. I was so crowded I had no room to move. It's looking better already!

I'll have to catch up later, outdoors is calling me and my coffee is almost gone!

Good morning!

Yet another sunny day ... the last one for a while according to the forecast so I'm soaking up the sun! :-) Light breeze and about 58F ... feels warmer in the sun.

Can anyone tell me how you make s'mores? I'm curious ;-)

Hope you all have a great day!

Celia: I have no idea how big the Big Dippers and the other EE will get--you'll have to ask Ric--he's the one who sent them to me. That's a neat leaf--what is it?

BP: Sounds like you have been making the most of your cooler weather--you go, girl! It's not quite sweatshirt weather here but it is definitely cooler and we surely needed a break from the oppressive heat!

Currently 78F and partly cloudy and somewhat breezy.

S'mores, the best I remember, are made this way: Graham cracker, Hershey bar on top of that, marshmallow on top of that, another graham cracker on top of that; melt over fire--I don't remember how you go about holding the s'more on top of an open fire--maybe somebody else can tell you that part of it

You toast the marshmallows first. Then, squish them between the choco and graham crackers. Yum! So, you have cracker, melting marshmallow, choco, cracker.

We had a "cold" front come through here, too, so it's only 97 now. LOL The past couple of evenings, Charles and I have gone to 2 drum and bugle corps shows, which was very fun. My siblings and I used to follow them closely while we were in high school and for several years later, but I haven't been to a contest for about 10 years. It was great to go again!

S'mores... yummm... :-)

And now that you mentioned it, I do remember that you toast the marshmallows first--LOL!! (Can you tell it's been a while since I've been camping?)

Marylyn: My 15 1/2 yr. old DGD just called me and asked me if I would take her to a drum and bugle corps contest on Tuesday in Van Buren, AR. It's about 2 1/2 hours from here but, like a good grandmother, I told her I would take her. And then she told me that two of her friends wanted to come along, too! I hope I can take 3 giggling teen-age girls for a whole day!!! LOL Oh, yes, and then after I said yes, she told me it cost from $17.00 to $25.00 to get in!
Gorgeous candleholders, kiska!

Nice and cool here. We babysitted my brother's GF's little boy today and he wore us out. He never settled down to take a nap. We went shopping at our favorite store (www.cargolargo.com) and got a Scott's manual push reel mower for just over $50. Amazon has it for $115. Only managed to snag one since someone else grabbed the other one before I could. We are giving it to my grandma so she can mow part of her yard and get some exercise too.

To busy around here to post.
We had a super day at market yesterday. It was kids day. We made up a little bag for each kid. It had some beans, peas & a radish in each. Also added a business card worth either $1 or $5 at a future market. Made up 100 & all are gone. 10 had the $5 prize.
We sold everything we took along. Biggest day so far this season.
After market I drove to the western Twin Cities to pick up a sheetrock lift I bought on an online auction. Didn't get home until 7:30 PM.
Today we have a little garden work to do, then off to my daughters to work on her house.

Sunshine today, don't know the temp. High of 80 expected.

I'm watering the astilbes and garden. No tomatoes or green peppers for me either. Too cold. I did buy more bean seed and planted them. I hope to can something. My carrots are ready to dig too.

Grrrr--I just lost an entire post! I hate it when that happens!!
Let me see if I can re-create it.
Ric: Pepto Pink is correct--a Mary Kay Cosmetics saleslady must own that car--LOL! Love the covered arbor in that other photo--beautiful!
Celia: very funny about the "ancient family secret"--LOL Love the sunflower and the backlighting on the castor plant. Buddy would have loved that Corvette-he always wanted one. He had the cap to wear--he was just waiting on the car! Who knows--he may be driving one around heaven!
Marylyn: thanks for the "heads up" on the cushion! I'll surely need one!
Bernie: all those veggies make me think of the song we used to sing in VBS when I was a child: "Oats, peas, beans, and barley, too" La, la, la. . .
Dyson: m-m-m, homemade ice cream--yummy!
Kelli and Celia: our excessively hot temps must have moved out West--you have
my sympathy!
Sharon: glad you enjoyed catching up with your friend. Nope--Sylvester doesn't quite have it yet--he needs more relaxation lessons from Monty! LOL
Rann: you are having a heat wave, too! LOL "We're having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave" la, la, la (I seem to have old songs on my mind this morning but you have to be over 60 to remember that one--LOL) Gorgeous rose--it looks like my Rio Samba
BP: "catching up is hard to do" la, la, la and LOL You've been busy. I'm
enjoying the cooler weather, too!
Adina: Gorgeous blooms--love the sunflowers!

We are currently at 67F and partly cloudy. We had a "smattering" of rain but the sidewalk is already mostly dried out. Heading for a high of 85F today.

My orchid is still blooming--that's what I love about orchids--their blooms last for literally weeks! This pic was taken a few weeks ago:

Mau I'm hoping to get back to my Orchids and Cactus after we get the new GH built.
For now I'll just drool over your and Kell's photos.

We got some HUGE pots yesterday. It's nice to have a landscaper for a neighbor.
I'm thinking of moving most of my Black Bamboo into them.

Celia, LOVE that castor shot.
Funny story on those.
Marcy gave me some seeds a few years back.
We saved some from last year and started them in styrofoam cups.
Then ran out of room, got busy and forgot them.
I finally found a spot for them and went to plant.
The only plant left had grown roots thru the drain holes into the ground.
Guess it's staying where it is...

If you haven't read Adina's Article on today's homepage please do.
She won't blow her own horn but I will...lol!
GREAT Article made better by her excellent photos.

Aw, Joey, JW is so cute in his turtle ring--and his Uncle Garrett is a handsome young man!

I was going to get out and do some weeding this morning but it is raining again---not complaining, though!

Currently 70F and light rain.

Here's Zach playing with one of his K'Nex creations. When Zach is at my house, Friday is his constant companion. :o))

Can we have 63 and raining? Even 75 and raining would be fine.

98 is what they said for yesterday but...

Mau and Joey, such cute GKs!!!

Everybody, thanks for the compliments on the pics. I have so much fun taking and sharing them.

Funny story on the Castor pic. That plant is only mid-thigh-high and right by my back neighbors wall. I had to lay on my back and get under the plant. I, also, have a Japanese lace leaf maple in a pot by the house. As I was framing the pic, I hear my neighbor (the one who stands on a box to look in my yard) says, "Honey! Come look at this!" I continued to take pics, getting the right angle frame, etc. Then, I hear, "Look at the sunflowers!" "Oh, my. Those are pretty. What is that over there?" "I don't know but, look. She still has that marijuana plant by the house." "Maybe we should call the police?"

Celia, it's a carp. I made it with a salty sauce with tomatos and sweet pepper and lots of parsley. It is served with polenta.

LOL, Celia! I think you need a bigger plant tag - one they can see from their yard - that says, "This is NOT marijuana!" Do you have your neighbor's e-mail address? Maybe you can send them a link to the PlantFiles entry for the real plant. :-)

After being sick all weekend (again!!! This time a tummy bug. :-P I think I need to start taking some vitamins or something... I'm tired of being sick!), I'm having a good Monday. :-) The bunnies and I went shopping and filled the pantry back up, and pulled some weeds before it started thundering. Unfortunately, the thunder moved off quickly and we only got a few sprinkles. Hopefully another batch will come through and we'll actually get some real rain. In the meantime, the weather forecast for this week looks MUCH more typical for us - mid to upper 90s, high humidity, and a 20-40% chance of rain every afternoon.

Yayy, JW pics!! He's soo cute. :-)

Rann, that rose is beautiful!!

Sharon, Wester is so cute stretched out like that. Our Browser sleeps on his back, too, and he has such a fuzzy tummy, I have a hard time not tickling it. He is generally not very amused. LOL

Mau, that orchid photo is gorgeous!!

Adina, drooool... Can I come to your next BBQ??

Our friends came over and we had lots of fun. Lucian made the BBQ and Marta was walking through the grass. She loved the garden!

LOL Is Lucian poking Marta with the BBQ fork?

Post that recipe, if you can, Adina. That's looks like something Darrell would love.

Marylyn, sorry you are sick again. What a way to spend the summer! No, I don't have his email. ^_^ Wouldn't help anyway. He keeps calling Darrell, "Randy."

Darrell called him Randy to see what would happen. All he got was a blank look.

Edited for spelling.
Can you really fry an egg when it's that hot?
I don't know. Sounds like something for "Mythbusters". I'd say that you probably can't truly fry it, but you could cook it at least to kind of a soft-boiled state. I've read that the soil surface in Death Valley can get to some ungodly temperature, like 160F or maybe more. I don't remember the exact number. I'll bet that if you looked on You Tube, you could find a video of someone cooking an egg on a sidewalk or driveway. In case you're wondering, Death Valley is about 4 hours away from here. I've been there several times, but never in the summer, of course. I read an article one time about Anza Borrego Desert State Park, which is in another really hot place (over the mountains south of Palm Springs) and they were talking to a ranger who was out on patrol on a day that was well over 100F. They asked him who would be out on a day like that and he said, "German tourists. They love the heat."

According to the newspaper, it was 106F here yesterday. This morning around 10AM, it was in the low 90s with 35% humidity but it felt like 70%. It was awful. Some people like it, though. The woman behind us was out yakking on the phone around noon. (I think if she ever stops talking, she'll suffocate or something. I swear.) Supposed to be hot all week.
