Great article, Todd. Several months ago a former business associate sent me several pictures of a mystery plant. (Since I am now retired, I seem to be the "go to" person for plant ID !) I was not able to find any info on DG, but found info on jennysgarden.com. The plant turned out to be Neomarica Gracilis, aka Apostle plant, and Twelve Apostles. According to that site, the plant will not bloom until there are 12 shoots and the blooming shoot is supposedly Jesus. I was given a shoot which has now produced another shoot and I look forward to a bloom or 2 at some point. According to my friend, the plant from which our shoots came is in a 16" pot that is full of apostles and beautiful blooms. I'm looking forward to cultivating this magnificent plant. It seems to like it's environment on the south side of my zone 7 screened porch. When the weather requires it will come inside to a south facing window and I will get out the mister. Thanks again for you great article.
ppinnc, I've never heard of an Apostle Plant--- isn't it weird it has to have 12 shoots before it will bloom? Wow, that's interesting. What kind of blooms is it suppose to have?
