Yesterday while watching baseball (grrr) my TV suddenly turned itself off. I clicked the on button and within 3 seconds it did it again and again and... Each time I could hear the announcer, but the TV turns off before the picture would have come on. (Seems like there has always been a couple second delay for the picture to come on). Also there is a little red light on the front of the TV that keeps flashing a few times, then stops, then starts flashing again then stops. There was no power surge or storm. What does it sound like IZ am dealing with.
i am also totally bummed as this TV came from Circuit City and I have maintained the extended warranty on it over the years, BUT now that CC has gone out of business I have no proof of warranty. It was in their computer system and I think I renewed over the phone last time.
This is a Sony WEGA Trinitron.

There is a capacitor in the Sony and Magnavox "picture tube type" TVs that tends to go bad causing the exact problem you are describing. If you can find an old school TV repairman willing to work on it, the parts are relatively cheap. It's not a difficult repair to make, but it does require knowing where it (the capacitor) is and it's not a plug-in thing, it has to be cut out and soldered in.

If you have any way of finding the warranty info on it, I think someone is required to honor Circuit City's warranties and take their records. I'm not sure how that works. But I'd try to contact Sony if I were you.
Good Luck

The warranty info was in their computor. they would always call me to see if I wanted to renew it an had it in their computor program. I had renewed it twice for 3 years on this Tv and don't know that I had paperworkl. I have talked to Sony and they say that CC had 3rd party independant Ins.
thanks for the capacitor info. I may just call around
