The weather for June in northern Westchester and for much of the North East was much wetter and cooler than normal and now that we are well into July it's not as wet but still not really warm. Night time temps have been in the mid 50s for the last week. My cherry tomatoes look OK but i've only picked a couple of ripe ones at this point. The only plants that have fruit of any size is Jet Star which i tried for the first time this year but the size is still small and they are like green golfballs. Most of the rest of the plants have very little fruit which is tiny and green at this point. Two years ago I had my first ripe beefsteak tomato around July 4th. Last year it was near the end of July but this year I am wondering if it's going to be a total write off.
I'd be really interested to hear how other gardners in my zone are doing as well as hear advice from those more experienced gardners who have been through a less than perfect summer before and let me know what to expect crop wise.
