you are 2 dogs ahead of me. ?? how do you keep them out of your gardens? i like this idea. i already have tomatoes in pots. only way to keep the squirrels from eating them or burying sunflower seeds in them. don't mind the sunflowers, but they dig up my tomatoes in the process. i surround the pot and support with chicken wire. doesn't look too neat but i do get to eat tomatoes from my garden. next problem is deer. they are pretty, like to watch them, but never get to see oriental lillies bloom. can't surround everything with chicken wire.

7 cats and 2 dogs now :-)
The cats are indoors only and the dogs only go out with me on leashes.

Blood meal will keep the deer and rabbits away. They don't like the smell of it. Maybe squirrels too but I don't know, there aren't any here. Might attract dogs though if you have loose ones running around where you live.

Dordee: I live on 2 acres surrounded by woods in a development & have herds of deer so have had to learn to co-habitate with them peacefully. After all, they were there first!! I have a recipe that seems to work well & is very inexpensive. Break a couple eggs into a pitcher & fill with water (slowly so doesnt foam up) & beat eggs well. Add a couple drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid & stir. I spray or take a ladle & "broadcast" it over plants & trees. You will have to renew after a rain, but overall, it is pennies a week compared to the expensive sprays you can buy. You can refrigerate any leftovers till the next time you need (to keep the smell down) or store. Has worked great for us!!
