I just heard on the news that WalMart will be compiling an index of all the products they carry, and will be giving those products an "eco-rating", which rates their impact on the environment. They will be getting the information from the manufacturer. It may take five years to get this up and running.

Good idea that will have a real impact, or marketing gimmick?

A lofty goal and a noble plan...if it's real. I will remain skeptical until I can figure out if all parties can be trusted.

This is a brilliant PR move and I liked that they've been quietly working on it for more than a year. The article cited two other more minor initiatives that sound good. All I know is that somebody needs to do it and I'd lots rather it be industry and Walmart than another expensive and ineffective agency funded via Washington.

I'm really eager to hear more about it and learn if there is going to be real verification. This could lead to all manufacturers joining in and fit with extending the cap and trade policy.

It was only a matter of time before the "Green Mansion" phenomena went down market.

Now that Walmart is doing it maybe the mega-rich won't boast about how their 25,000 sq ft plus homes and 3rd cars are eco-friendly.

Folllow the money ... it's the "IN Thing" to be green. Wallie-World is no different.
