Forget trying to dig it out. Every piece of root left behind will regenerate. If you can really be bothered
take your special plants out of the garden. Put them some where safe. Leave the garden fallow, when the buttercup surfaces again, spray with Versatil or glyphosate. Do it twice if any thing else shows. There is no "green" way to get rid of it so forget it. Be careful when you replant your special plants, there may be some buttercup roots amongst them. Wash out and carefully inspect before you replant.
