Here is my yard this year. It has been two years since I posted the tour pictures. I have a link to webshot. I don't go into description detail because there are too many pictures, but I think you can tell. This yard is 4 years old. The pond is chlorinated and immaculate. It is 4 1/2 feet deep, 120 feet long total. My husband built the BBQ. I am wondering if anyone has a cheaper countertop that will withstand 3 feet of snow other than granite that costs less? Tile will not work here. I help others with their design and many people want this outdoor kitchen, but the granite alone is 3K.

Thank you so much. The extreme heat is baking a few plants so I am going to move them. They want to scorch so time to dig em up and plant something else

Crazy,

Wonderful tour. I've seen your pics before but I never grow tired of looking at them! I can't believe your garden is only four years old. I love the crystal clear water - almost makes me want to chlorinate mine, but it probably wouldn't look right in my setting.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Songs. do you have some photos of your garden? I remember your stream and lush garden. I would love to have planted hostas along the stream but I don't have shade in those areas. So my water bordering plants are all in full sun except for the Japanese Maple by the big pond. I had to struggle with do I want leaves in the pond or sun? I decided on sun.

I think it is difficult to put a chlorinator in after the fact and have it run well. I've seen my pond guy and retrofit them and he hates it. I love your water and I wouldn't change it. I just knew with my water in full sun, it would be an algae farm.

I am now having do dig up and divide and in some cases dig up and give away. Post your tour if you have one.

Well it is truly spectacular. And your setting is sublime too. Is that a lake I see down in the valley?

I do have some new pics of mine. I'll get them together and post a little later. My garden is not as tidy as yours though. I didn't see a single weed or misbehaving plant in your pics! Mine is starting to look a little unkempt and I can't keep up with the leaves, pineneedles and weeds! I need to quit my job! But I do love it. And Its just always nice to drool over what I'll never have too!

Thanks again. I did put my foot down with the weeds this year. I have used straight compost in my back beds to get my plants established. This year I'd had it with constant weeds. Snapshot pre-emergent wasn't doing a thing. I attended an extensive horticultural series this winter and they had a lot of info on bark mulch and the benefits. I've always put cedar bark in my front beds, but they are shrubs and not the exotic stuff in my backyard. I wanted my back beds to be composted.

In May, after weeding daily, enough was enough and I went to work, laying 2 to 4 inches in June. Holy cow, it made a huge difference. Almost no shot weed any more. And the weeds that do come up are tall and leggy and so easy to remove. Baddabing, they are out of there. My only battle continues in my groundcovers where they can find room to sprout. The mosses keep them controlled pretty well, but they do sprout up in shadier groundcovers such as vinca. In some areas of groundcovers that were filled with weeds, I just removed it completely and put down the bark. It looks so much better. I prefer the black rich composted soil look but this red fine bark is working well to keep the weeds at a minmum. I did use a time release granular fertilizer intstead of compost and you would never know. Plants are thriving and not drying out as much as they did before. If I get weeds, I add more bark. I kept extra for this purpose. Post your pics.

I haven't gotten around to bark mulch the past few years. Each year I have several major garden projects going on so most of my time is spent creating new beds, paths, etc. instead of maintaining the existing ones. Hopefully in a couple years my whole yard will be landscaped and then I can concentrate on the maintenance. I created a thread with a link to my "tour". I didn't want to hijack yours. This forum seems very sleepy so you should find it no problem! Hope you enjoy.

Absolutely beautiful garden. Could you please tell me what 2 of your plants are please.

#1 picture #29, there are 2 conifer looking plants that are weeping in the back right corner of your pond.

#2 picture # 74, the green 6-7 ft. conifer, just left of center.

I took a vacation trip up in your neck of the woods in Sept. and fell in love with all the conifers up there. Wish I could grow some here too.

Thank you for sharing.

Oh my gosh! How beautiful, serene and inviting! Did you all do all the landscaping or hire it to be done? I gathered a few ideas from viewing the slideshow. Now if I can only implement them into my proposed cottage garden in the Spring. Thank You So Much for sharing the photos..you and your husband need to pat yourselves on the back for such a beautiful place to enjoy. I'm envious!
