You know, I had a little red Honda motorcycle once with a hex like that. All I had to do was turn the key and it would start raining. Every time. It was truely weird. I finally sold it to another guy, believe it or not it started raining when he drove it home!
I don't think he made it to AZ, Al. No rain since February except the little bit last night. Sure is trying to rain right now, though, so maybe he just rolled into town - lol.
cue - if this storm passes before I go to bed I'll download and post those pics for you on the plant shipping thread.
If you're dancing, don't stop - I need some rain.
mekos - I may be able to root some of the Sapphire Showers for you. The wind blew the BIG HEAVY pot over and a few pieces broke off. There might be enough new growth to root . I've got them in water as we speak. Normally I'd wait until I cut it back in the fall when it puts out a lot of new growth, so we'll see. . .
Hi Just in time to say Goodnight. Have a great flight Al!
Cue I painted some outdoor furniture with enamel paint. The guy at the paint store told me it would make it waterproof. Just give it a couple of coats on all sides and I think it will work for awhile. Polyurethane will protect it if you paint a design on it.
Robin glad to have you back on board. I hope you had a great time with all your friends and relatives. Can't remember what I did on my 50th. Must've had a good time. LOL
Hey Flower I think you're still the favorite by default. :) Cue and I want you to add a poem to the poetry thread on the back porch forum. Don't we Cue?
Hey Cue, you know those little clear plastic boxes you buy fruit in at walmart or grocerystores work as little greenhouses too. The top lifts up for watering and the sun, or blue grow light, can shine right through.
Those are the Cephalaphora Aromatica. They smell like apples and look like globe Amaranth. They came right up. I planted them in egg cartons and put them in a seed growing tray with a top. They were the only ones I planted that weren't covered over by the paper towel. My violas and Globe Amaranth have sprouted also not showing green yet. :)
Those are cute seray. The only ones I see visable changes to are the orange jasmine seeds. I can tell they are trying to sprout, but not big enought to see on camera. However some I put in soil at the same time have popped out of a pot outside.
since i have so many seed (thanks to all mah seedy peeps), Im gonna do the milk jug method and then transplant seedlings in clumps, rather than transplant individuals, as it would take me 50 years to plant them all that way...ROTFL.. and then the Goth Garden would never get done! (not that it really ever will... there's always room for just one more plant.. right?)
was checking out some of the brugs on sale in the market place, but they all seem to be pink. i have 2 pink already... needs something different now.
Hey cue, I have seed already sprouting in tripple yellow and tripple purple/white. They are about 2 inches tall right now and the red/yellow is sowed along with the sunset or sunrise, what ever it is. I sowed them in the long pots outside a few days ago.
Forgot to say, I have more seeds of these as well, you can have ,if you prefer seeds to sow your own.
They sprout pretty fast, a week or so. I got lots going if you want some. I sowed the red scarlet wisteria too. That could be the ones sprouting outside in the long pot. I put them on the end of the pot. Here is the picture of it today. I planted it the same day I did the wet towel, baggie ,thingy. Another picture to come.
i got one tiny little leaflet from each right now.. they literally sprouted today while i was at work, cuz there wasnt anything there when i checked this morning ( i obsess when i am trying to sprout seeds.. i will check several times a day until i see something poking thru the soil...LOL)
I know what you mean, I check mine all the time too. I get impatient and re-sow sometimes then later the pot is full of different sprouts and I can't remember what they are. Here are some pretty ones. Petunias.
I had this happen early in the summer with my brugs. woke up one morning and the leaves looked like swiss cheese. found out it was inch worms, but took alot to actually figure out waht it was.
look carefully under the leaves. look verrrrry closely, as inchworms are almost identical in color and shape to the large leaf veins that run underneath. I ended up getting rid of them by just picking off and squishing...
They look very similar to mine. You have to remember my DH weed whacked the foliage, so this picture shows them with little if any green - lol. Since it DID rain, I fully expect them to pop up in a day or two and this time I'll get a better pic with the foliage before someone mows it down again . . .
Mine is a baby so it hasn't bloomed yet. Really don't know. Here is a huge red castor bean and it's so dark it looks black all the time. I haven't seen any red anywhere but I think it blooms red in the top in the fall.
actually, i have red castor bean seed here.. but have yet to plant it because i keep getting told its extremely invasive here (got it in my newbie pack back in march)... may plant it in a container just to be on the safe side
Arejay, remember the little tiny plant(micro small) I sent you when I first joined this club and the little black berries , this is the flower blooming now. That was several months ago, you may not remember.
Mine is a dark red not the pink one. I have the pink one too but the leaves are green and not as big as this red one. They are 2 seperate plants.
Sorry, we been posting at the same time and I didn't see some of this, but I'm talking about the big red castor bean being black and blooms a blood red bloom.
ok.. see if ya can follow my twisted train of thought here...
remember the old 'Snake Oil' salesmen? the ones that would stand on soap boxes and sell you 'elixirs of life' and 'Cure Alls' for a few bucks, then pack up like a carnival and leave town???
well, i got to thinking .. and decided of I were to create one of those Snake oils, how would i go about hypnotizing the masses into buying y harmless bottle of colored water??? heres what I came up with:
'Got Gloomy Plumies? Floppy Flowers and Sad Glads? Buggy Brugs?
then you need Madame Kelz's 'Garden Grow All' formula for sick and dying plants!
thats right, just a few drops of Garden grow all and your plants will bounce back thicker, greener and healthier than ever before with twice as many blooms!.
be the gardening envy of your neighbors and get your bottle of Madame Kelz's Garden Grow All ! Dont wait, supplies are limited! Only $19.99 a 12 oz bottle!
LOL... depends on how much money i could make off of ya before i left ... Mwahahahahahaha!.. just kidding... I would miss ya.. who else would be so understanding of my spur of the moment twisted humor??
lol.. to be honest, i joined GW.. and never visited it.. i dont like the way its laid out.. and i find much more interesting friendly peeps here along with all the info i will ever need.. and NO they dont have a poetry thread...LOL
OK, they are OFF the auction block. WOW, when I bought them, I thought they were a vine, -as some know, I can't see well, and they were on small pictures. Man those are beauties! Thought you might like to see me and my husband. I just finished giving him a hair cut. This would be my DH. Next one is me.
was out putzing around the area that ive cleared (am clearing) for my Goth Garden when my neighbor wanders over to look at my Ornamental pepper 'Black pearl' that I had just set out in that area. he look sat me, shakes his head and laughs "You aint right! You gotta twisted idea of gardening."
i say 'yeah? and your point is what?"
he says 'Well, just never see a black flower garden anywhere.. you gotta admit.. its a bit strange."
I say "why is it that different equals strange? why is it that people who think outside of the box or who dare to be creative and individual are called weird and strange/"
him: *blank look*
me: sighs and shakles head.. cuz i kno he cant think on such a high level "doent matter.. its my yard, my garden.. i plant what I want...just like you *points to his backyrad with the 50 some plants in pine bark islands with no rhyme or reasoning to their placement... and sparse to boot.*
"I laugh at such small minded mortals.. for they know not yet the beauty of my gloriously macabre garden.. but soon, very soon, they shall know it"
I know there is a poem there send that neighbor a thank you note with some wonderful black seed in it!!
nope.. remember that short script i told you about, that I was workingon with a small production company? we were gonna film it and submit it to a few short independent film contests?????
well, turns outm the guy who owns the production company has a friend.. who is a friend of a Hollywood producer ( I canot name names at this point). He saw the script.. and wants to send it to said Producer to look at... he thinks its good!!!! i might actually get Hollywood backing on my short film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im not out to be rich and famous.. im just out to be recognized for my work.. any monetery compensation gained from my work is purely a blessing! im just estatic that someone higher up on the ladder wants to send my work for someone even higher to look at... in the world of screenwriting.. it dont get any better than that!
sorry girls.. me head is still spinning... I got tears leaking outta my eyes at the moment... Im kinda on cloud nine.. now I feel validated... even if nothing comes of it (which happens more often then not) I know it was good enough to go at least that far!
I don't remember any Moose up at the river!?! Good nite all. I got lost for a while in regular e-mail, sorry. Just got caught back up. I think someone called me a moose??? It's moose lagoon, imaginary place. In cue's head out there. Where are all my friends when I need them? Love you guys, great going Cue. Couldn't happen to a nicer person. Good night.
Wow I get off of here to work on an afghan which decided it wanted to run out of one color I don't want to repllace to find Cue is almost famous. Congratulations Cue, now you know for sure what we've all been telling you. You're great.
On those black flowers that have pink blooms... Maybe God is just reminding you Goth nuts that there's still a girl in all that black stuff???? And while I don't care for black plants or flowers I don't think they are werid and your garden will be interesting to behold.
Mekos you mentioned selling seeds up there somewhere???? How much are you wanting for them??
Robin, flowerejh has a friend from out of state visiting with her and they went off camping and doing a lot of fun stuff while she is here. I think she is due back just before the summer break is over then back to college, and working. She is suppose to let us know when she's back. HI Loca, Margaret, Robin and CUE, where is Seray and other Flower? Morning ALL!!! Well, Margater, I was going to auction the seed off because I'm not crazy for bromeliads, but when I saw that huge picture, I think I may go ahead and sow a few to see if they will grow. Actually, I did that this morning. They are on a heat mat and under a blue light, in starter soil. I took all my seed from the wet towel and baggies and put in starter soil on heat mats and blue lights. I think this will be faster germinating. AND found out it takes 2 weeks to sprout the metal blue and sapphire towers. So, they are on the way. I still have a few seeds, but promised Seray some for helping me with some info. Have to see what is left from that after these sprout. I'll let you know if I have any extras.
Jan...are you there? I am sending your package today before I leave for Morgantown. Is there anything besides Mint? Not blueberries though you have to wait till it is cooler.I sent some to a woman recently and she said they died so I am not sending out anymore until it cools...but anything else I am supposed to send you?
Jan no problem if you don't have any to auction off I was just letting you know I am interested if you do.
HI Robin. what kind of mint did you send Jan? I"m just being nosy here LOL. Next trip to town I get to take cuttings from lemon mint a friend has and mark her purple crape myrtle for getting a sprout from this fall as I don't know if I can root cuttings from it though I might try just to see. I had lemon mint but let my BIL have it knowing I can get more easy. I had 2 Royals sprout and already have a home for them.
And if you are offering blueberries this fall I would be interested in trying them as I lost all I bought a few years ago. DH told me if I keep it up I'll have to set up at the farmer's market to get rid of all the fruit if everything gets going good LOL. I told him nope I knew too many people who could use some extra help with their food supply.
Sorry, I was off for a while, We had a storm with RAIN!!!!!!! It took out my internet for a while. Robin, the only other thing I want is florida orchid if you happen to be hiding that one somewhere. LOL Margaret, HI. I need to wait to see if the seed I sowed will sprout, and after setting some aside for seray, if there are any left, I'll let you know. The seed are so tiny and there aren't many in the pack, I sowed 5 of each one and have 5 left, but may have to re-sow, as sometimes they don't sprout. They take 2 weeks form what I read, so I'm watching.
ONLY because you go to Florida so much. I can only go in my dreams. (Not often then either). I'm only teasing you Robin, That is sweet of you to send the mint. I really appreciate them. I've never heard of chocolate mint before or curly, only peppermint, but never grew any of it. I have lots of spearmint, little piece of pinapple mint, tiny piece of catmint. That's all in the mint line.
HI Robin does that mean you want some lemon mint ? My friend told me to take the whole plant LOL but I told her for now I'll just take cuttings since I can root those easy enough. She also has a spearmint that is different from what I have from another friend. Hers smells more like spearmint gum than the one I have.
Hi mekos. Yeah for rain! We got a little sprinkling last night to go along with the wind and thunder and lightning. Storms in the forecast through Saturday, so hoping for more rain. The monsoons are weird. The storms usually come at night.
You can have sasquatch. Yes, I'm out in the boonies. We sometimes have to pipe in sunlight, and they roll up the sidewalks when the sun goes down. Them boonies. No street lights except lightning at times.
I grew up like Mekos lives. Boonies. Wonderful Black starlit nights. Secret whispers from everywhere. Whip-o-wills and owls. Foxfire and ghostly shadows. Caves. My Granpa and I would chase lights at night through the fields. He read poetry to me instead of TV. Summer gig only though. Back to the real world during the winter. Not like Moose Lodge though.
Sounds great. Hey, would anyone be interested in a seed auction? I just suggested it to cue and if anyone is interested, we'll do a new forum for it. They way it works is I post a pack of seeds available and if you want them, you bid by saying what seeds or plants you would trade for them. Anyone interested ??
I'm sure you have seeds I want Mekos. You have everything :) I on the other hand don't have too much to trade as yet. Never know until you try though. My stash is growing as my bank account diminishes. LOL
This is just in the planning stage but you can bid with seeds or plants or combine if you really want something being auctioned and you could maybe get someone to bid something for you and you trade it out with them. just some ideas. Really would like to know if anyone is interested. If so, we may do it one day a week. Like post the seed up for auction on Wednesday night and work the auction until sunday night then post a new pack of seeds Sunday night for ending up on thursday night. That way everyone could get in on it and have time to see what they can come up with to bid. Combine with someone else if ya had to, etc.
Well I will tell you all I wish that the ones of you that need the rain that you only had a 1/3 of what we have had today. It has rain so much and so hard here almost all day. I had to make a trip down south for the day and it was raining so hard I could hardly see where I was going and all day too ! Where did it come from. cue did you do that rain dance and send it to the wrong person? LOL
I have decided to reopen this newbie thread. It is the last thread I opened and we needed a thread that newbies are sure will get them to the directions...there has been a suggestion that we might do some seasonal garden tips, information about the Auctions, Contest , things like that here. I thought it was a great idea... Please feel free to jump in all are welcome new and old questions , concerns, and helpful hints about the newbie program would be greatly appreciated.
Sending or receiving of your newbie packages, seed donations for the newbie box any and all of that...
Hope to hear from you
Yeah we have a problem. I found 2 people that are in the zone that I am doing and they were not listed in the memebrs list zones yet. I am afraid we will be missing some if I don't try to keep up on the home page list. I think I am going to go ahead and do the home page and that way I can keep a watch on newbies. If they get 2 dmails about it , it won't matter, at least they will know one way or another.
Yeah I know . These people were in the zone I am taking care of. I probably didn't explain very well. I am just doing the ones in my zone. The others might want to check home page list for ones in their zones. If it was like the 2 I found this morning they aren't yet listed in the zone list.
I sometimes know what I want to say and it just don't come out the way I am trying to say it LOL
Dont get Bored talk away even when there is no one here it isnt true watch the numbers top right...We gardeners seem to love lurking...compare post to views Mindy...Someone is listening to every word you say and eventually they come in and chat...
LOL yeah I know what you mean there. OK so you have zone 6 and mechelle has 7/8 and I have 5. If you want check the home page and look to see if there are any ones listed there in your zone that haven't been listed in the member zones yet and if there is you can dmail them from there too, but remember to check your members list too.
YUP, mine was sowed for 3 months before they magically decided to show themselves. Had given up and was going to re-use the pot , when I saw them swelled and sprouting. Put them back under the grow light and woot-hoot as cue would say. My son is here, talk to ya later when he leaves.
I was doing well catching up and then my little monkeys started school this week, so it's crazy all over again - lol. Got some more labels last night at WallyWorld and will be sorting and bagging theseeds I'm sending for the newbie stash this weekend :^)
Newbie here sayin' “Hi Y'all!” (Sometimes I like to try out new cyber-accents; it looses something in the translation to bits, tho.)
Not really a newb; I've been in & out of DG periodically the last few years, but am well and truly a new subscriber. So, I hope I will now set a spell and put down some roots, so to speak.
I opened the home page & was immediately drawn to “SEED JUNKIE”...now that's callin' my name!
[Question: What's worse, a seed junkie or a fabric junkie?
Answer: A fabric junkie, because
a) fabric takes a lot more room to store and
b) you can't have as much fun sorting it in various obsessive ways (Should I go with just Perennials and Annuals or...ooh ooh, SUBsets of the veggies: Curcurbits, Legumes, Nightshades...)
c)it is easier to imagine the work completed (i.e.: look at a seed packet and see rows of Lupine or Corn waving in the breeze vs. imagining the work to transform fabric to clothing or curtains.]
But I digress.
I was a bit thrown off by the porn convo, as the 1st pic I saw was something like Gazania. But I was reassured that y'all are not hopelessly in the gutter when I saw Clitoria a bit later. The last image is lovely. Indeed a thread to share with the hubs. Might encourage them to help with the weeding. (You never know what you might find in there hon!)
Well, must go see how DG has grown & what to do with all these new parts. Need some more ideas for my birthday tomorrow. (I already know about one present: a lovely turqoise necklace. I'm not psychic: I ordered it myself while I was shopping for new door levers of Overstock & gave the package to DH when it arrived with instructions to surprise me. I must have some sort of new virus that re-directs pages from door hardware to jewelry. The old virus usually went to Territorial Seed Co. or LandsEnd. Or both.
hot in NY (from the temperature, ladies!)
Welcome to the funny farm - lol. We move around quite a bit, so here's the link to the latest thread. You'll have to watch closely to see where we end up next, but you seem like a pretty smart gal (and funny too!), so you'll figure us out in a heartbeat.
Welcome back I guess is the most appropriate! We're a fun bunch for sure!
I am glad to meet you. It sounds like you can certainly settle in here. You already fit in.Seed or fabric it doesn't seem to matter heck some of us are using our fabric in our lasagna gardens now. Guess that mean bigger Pplants right. What has happen to us...
Oh well welcome Donna and Happy Birthday.
Overstock yeah it is definitely a virus that leads you from hardware to jewelry like that...
Good Morning All my equal and opposite counter part on the seed junkie thread had inspired me once again...This is what I am thinking.
Lasagne garden, Hmmm... I am thinking I should have one, well a working one. I do have one. Just not done. ...and when I get seeds donated from where-ever they come from...a couple of each should go into the lasagna bed for newbie collection purposes? What do you think? How big do I make it? What do I call it? Oh silly me Newbie garden? Collection place...Seed storage field...Can u all come over and help me dig it and plant it?
What a great idea Robin. I wouldn't mind a bit helping you dig and plant but it's too far for me and I can't get to town this week when I want to. You better count the seeds and multiply by 2 and check spacing for the size may need to do more than one LOL
Robin, its probably best not to go bigger than 4' X 6' on each bed, that way, all plants are easily accessible from the outside of the bed.. or you could go longer if you wish.. but i wouldnt go wider than 4'
Yes Robin I can tell you how to make the spreadsheet do whatever math you want it's not hard I just had to learn it since I don't really mess with spreadsheets much. I'll send you the how to on that in a little bit.
Great so when you are all done you can just push the button and tell me how much space I will need to plant say two seeds of each different packet you see? Well you don't see them all though because the new ones that Mom is now sorting from the auctions are not on there. But I could get a start with what is on there.
I received my seeds today from the seeds for newbies and just wanted to say thank you to everyone.
I can't wait till I can start to plant them now I was like a kid in a candy store today.
I do have two questions though there were two kinds of seeds I have no idea what they are
bush beans (Obviously some sort of bean) and beefsteak will someone help me out with some
information on these?
Again Thank you to everyone who is a part of the seeds for newbies,
I got my seeds today. WOW! I can't believe what you sent! Thanks so much!

And some that I can use for trades. Thanks to EVERYONE who is part of the newbie seeds. I will be certainly sharing some seeds for the "newbie-seed-pot" as soon as I get some to spare.
I just got my seeds this week and I am so thrilled! Being a newbie, it's been fun to look them up and see what they are - how to plant them - woooohooooooo- thank everyone so much for sharing! Next year is going to be a blast watching these new plants grow and beautify the new garden! I haven't purchased any annual seeds as I've been investing money in perennials, and I am thrilled you sent some annuals so I can try my hand at them too. This is a great site and what a sweet thing to do sharing seeds - thank you again so much! Cynthia
