What do I have here? It was supposed to be Opalka. I grew Opalka last year, and it was my favorite. I started seeds this year, but my seedlings all died in a tragic cat-related accident. In a panic, and without taking the time to research companies, I ordered live plants from a seller who carried most of the varieties I needed... and after researching here on DG I found out they have a TERRIBLE reputation. So I have six of the plants pictured instead of my six expected Opalka plants. The plants themselves are very short & bushy, currently about 3 feet tall compared to all of my indeterminites, which are now 6 feet tall. All of the tomatoes look like this - pear-shaped and about 2-3 inches long at present.

I grew either some version of Roma as well as San Marzanos two years ago. One of them had tomatoes that looked like this, though both of them grew much taller than the ones I have now. I don't recall which was which because I HATED both of them. I am going to be so irritated if instead of six beautiful Opalka plants I end up with six Romas, especially since this is the first year I've grown more than two of any particular variety.

I think I also have several other mis-labeled plants. I have one labeled as Costoluto Genovese. It's PL and the fruits aren't lobed at all. Then from a separate order I have one labeled as Sara Black, which is RL and those fruits are deeply lobed. My German Red Strawberry has produced large clusters of tiny, tear-drop shaped tomatoes. Maybe they will get bigger and turn into what they're supposed to be? All I know is if they turn into yellow pears, I will be sacrificing the plant to the tomato gods and requesting they smite the seller I bought it from.

I also have a "sweet million" that I planted specifically because I knew it was mis-labeled (It's PL) and thought a mystery plant would be fun... little did I know I'd have an entire garden full of mysteries!
