Oh bad, bad paul... My DH calls this the Man toy store.. he loves it! not great quality 100% of the time, but when you need it now, and are broke.. they have it for pennies on the dollar, and some very good buys.

My husband loves Harbor Freight too! He reads every catalog cover to cover. There is a reason everything is so cheap. And it's the same reason that they are not very "sustainable". Everything you can buy there comes from China. Just something to think about.

I know, I know. I posted the above because I think it's a reply that makes sense in this forum because this is the sustainable alternatives forum. If the thread was posted in the frugal living forum or something I would not have replied with the above. I just know many people that visit this forum don't shop at Walmart because of that fact.

If you don't have a problem shopping at Walmart than you won't with Harbor Freight. We shop at both but in moderation partially because I know how much energy is consumed to ship all those products here to the states.

It's not a good idea to buy high use items as the quality is not top notch and often you will need to replace them once or twice a year. This equals a lot of waste. But, if there are power tools or such that you use but a few times a year then this can be the place to get it since the cost is sometimes as much as 80% off of what you would pay at Home Depot or Lowes.

I used to rehab houses for a living and did a lot of business with HF especially for consumables like brushes, sand paper, electrical tape. Also lots of specialty tools that were only needed occasionally. They also have some refurbed quality brand power tool deals sometimes.

I really regret that I have sent so much $ overseas but it has gotten to the point that everything on the market is likely to have foreign parts, assembly or both even when it's an old American brand. At some point all this loss of our manufacturing jobs has to stop.

I've seen things made in USA at HF too. Just not as common, LIKE EVERYWHERE ELSE (unfortunately). The Chinese made consumables are 1/4 the price of the exact same Chinese made consumables bought at Lowe's.
