I am seeing this tile on all the decorating shows, remodeling shows, DIY shows. It's not that I'm one to follow a trend but I genuinely love things that sparkle and would always have liked this idea! I heard on one show it's $33 a square foot just for glass tile (no marble). Does this price reflect accurately? I've not priced tile but that seemed high to me.

I'd like to do corner garden tub with glass tiled walls (possible a glass/marble mixture).

And I have 24 square feet of tile area I'd like to redo on the fireplace but sheesh at $33 a square foot? LOL.

Has anyone worked with glass tiles? Familiar with pricing? Is it something a box store would have (HD, Lowe's)? I'm thinking I might have to go to a real tile store?

If you've done a project in it would you please share a picture?

They only had one glass and marble mosaic and it wasn't a good color option but it was $30 a square foot.

I guess perhaps a trip to a specialty store is in order.

I've purchased glass tile from Hakatai (.com) and gotten very nice tiles for much less than $30/foot. They have tile in that price range, too, but they also have a good selection at a fraction of that price, AND-- if you check the clearance area regularly, you might find just what you want for $3 to $5/ft!
Shipping is kind of high if you only buy a small amount, but the added cost per sq. ft. goes down a lot if you buy in quantity. If you're considering eventually doing more than one project, you might want to price out the combined shipping right away, as it could save you some.

I'll try to get some pictures in the next few days. As to putting up glass tile-- the stuff I've worked with is thin and light, so it stays put pretty well. (Heavy tiles on vertical surfaces sometimes need shoring up so they don't sag before the mortar sets.) Also, I had a much easier time working with mesh backed pieces than paper-faced pieces. If you do go ahead with the project, and if your tiles are very low profile (thin) you might consider tinting your mortar to approximate your grout color. You're bound to have a few places where the mortar oozes up and fill the grout line, and then you won't have to worry if a bit of it shows.
Good luck, and have fun!!
