You all are so great when an animal is in need, I thought I'd post a plea here. I know a dog that sorely needs help. He has a home but he needs much more care than his owner can afford - and doesn't know where to start if he could. Noah was adopted from a shelter that obviously either didn't know the extent of his problems or misrepresented them. He has seen two vets; neither helped, though his owner is still paying off one large bill. FYI, here's a bit about Noah. There will be no photos; they'd be too unsettling.
Noah is a young dog, judging from his teeth and behavior. He was represented as Husky, though why I don't know; he obviously isn't. One vet guessed at a cross between Husky and Mexican Grey Wolf. I think she's right about the wolf part; Noah doesn't bark, he makes wolf-y noises. He has massive paws with fur that completely covers the pads.
On the day of adoption, the foster home person explained that someone had cut his fur with clippers and had gotten too close to the skin, leaving skin burns. However, he was patchy with bristly fur in some places and none in others. It did not grow back and the owner, suspecting something more serious than a bad haircut, took him to the vet. Lots of tests, big bill, no answers. Noah has a blanket of coarse bristly fur along his back from shoulders to hips, on his legs and in tufts in other places. He is completely bald around his neck from ears to shoulders. His behind and tail are partly bald.
During the time he's lived with his current owner, he tore an anterior cruciate ligament in one leg. (I don't remember which one.) To the vet again. Vet recommended against surgery. Noah gets around OK, but it's obvious it hasn't healed. Or, if it did, not well.
I've never tried to step in but recently Noah's owner ventured that he "didn't know what to do with Noah." I took that as a sign and thought I'd try helping. I brought Noah home and tried introducing him to my 3 dogs. All went well with 2, but when I brought the third one into the mix, it didn't work and Noah and my largest male tried to bite each other.
Noah is a sweetheart with people and even kids. Doesn't like cats, or maybe is just to intent on playing with them for their comfort. Except for the venture with my dogs, he's been OK with others.
I'm not asking for anyone here to adopt Noah. What I would like is to find a rescue organization or a foster home that would take him in and try to get to the bottom of his strange skin/fur/leg problem. I would ask his owner if he could provide some $$ to support his care - and I would also pitch in.
Any ideas? This dog deserves help.
