I plant those babies 3 yrs ago, as a beginner gardener back then, I only plant 5. This year, we begin to harvest the spears, they are as thick as my thumb, juicy and sweet. Oh, how I wish I planted more!.
I planted 25 crowns three years ago, but only ten lived. Now I'm down to nine. I harvested my first spears in May - they were delicious. I didn't know asparagus could taste so sweet!
I've noticed some small baby asparagus plants coming up - so the seeds from last year must have sprouted - unless asparagus puts up new shoots from the roots.
me neither, I never know they are sweet. I am sure your baby asparagus are coming from seeds, since I also have some in my flower bed far away. One funny thing, my Mom thought they were monster dill weeds so she even tried to dug them up and trash them!
I only planted two! Really didn't think they would survive - they weren't crowns, but seedlings. So tiny and frail looking. They are doing great so far and I think I'll get more.
