DH and I are considering getting a SunSetter awning, but would like to hear from someone who has one before we make that investment. It would certainly give us much more use of our back yard, which can be stifling in the summer, but if it's too hard to extend manually (or too expensive to get the automatic one) it won't work for us. Does anyone have one, or know of someone who does? Or does anyone have a better idea for us that would give us shade in the summer? (The umbrella over the table just isn't big enough.) Inquiring folks in Savannah want to know!

I had one on a 30' trailer. It was excellent. If I had it to do over, I'd have bought the one with the electric opener. It wasn't terribly hard to open and close but with the electric one you can open it from inside before you go out. Cranking it open in the (at the time) Arizona sun was not much fun.

Thanks, DesertPirate. Did you install it yourself? We're getting on in years and the idea of tottering around on ladders doesn't appeal much!

I was in my early forties when I bought that one and yes I installed it myself, but if I were doing it today, I'd at least hire help. It can be a little unwieldy. They're not terribly heavy, but it takes at least two able bodied people to do it safely.
