I have some red poppies (believe they are oriental - black center, single bloom) that I started from seed and are blooming like crazy. However, when I harvested some of the dry heads (which were small) , the only thing inside was a black powder substance, no seeds. What is going on? They are in a mixed bed, and everything else around them that is going to seed is viable. Could it be insects? Or just no pollination? They are still blooming, is there something I can do to get some seeds this season? I have a few other types as well, none are producing seed pods.
