I looked through the posts here but didn't see an answer to this question, so thought I'd post the question myself.
Is there a search feature for the Market Place? As an example, I'd like to type in Daylily and get all the listings for that plant without having to wade through everything else to find what I'm looking for. If there isn't, is there a possibility that we could get one at some point? It would sure make it easier and quicker to find what one is looking for.

Thanks,
Joy

Yes, there's a search--if you go to the main marketplace page, it's in the upper right hand corner of the page.

Thank you ecrane3. I thought that was just a search of the entire site. I'm off to try it now.

Joy, if you search for 'Daylily' you will miss all the people who offer 'Hemerocallis'. International traders will always use the latin/botanical name, because common names are different in every country.

Thank you for the hint Joanna. I'll try it that way too.

Thanks for being so patient with me. :-)

I agree, definitely don't feel silly--I can't count the number of times I've looked for something and missed it when it was right under my nose the whole time! LOL

I've noticed something about the searches too; though it's been covered here, I'd like to bring up a new point.

Why doesn't the search function bring up a list of results based at all on the name of the products offered ??? You can go into the marketplace search and type in "Plumeria" but none of the Plumeria cuttings and plants available on the marketplace listings come up. I have 'Plumeria' right there in the name of the product for sale, but no results are found when searching.

Not everyone has been a member for long, in fact most of my sales have been to people who've just signed up for DG just in order to buy something I have available. I'd like to be able to type in Plumeria+cutting (one of the first things an average joe looking for a cutting would type in looking for Plumeria on the marketplace) and have my items (and everyone elses) come up for that category/product line. Same goes for all the other products. You type in any common name, and 4 out of 5 times it comes up with no results; making it look as if the marketplace is devoid of the particular plant, and if you search a number of times, gives the impression there isn't much available for sale.

I have had several people ask if I had any Plumeria, Hibiscus, Croton, etc. available, simply because they did searches and couldn't find them on the marketplace (and didn't want to sift through all of the cuttings offered) but I had them all listed.

I think this may have a GREAT deal to do with the reposts; those who have taken an item down and reposted on the first page one or twice. I admit I've done it 3 times since I put my first product up (not every item in the same day, and not every day for a week like I've seen a few times now) but I don't see anything wrong with light reposting, unless you have 200 items you put up once a week =/

Just my opinions and thoughts on the topic, thought I'd lay 'em down next to the others!

Aloha!

I'm not sure I understand what's happening when you search--when I type Plumeria in the search box it pulls up a number of Plumeria listings http://davesgarden.com/products/market/search.php?q=plumeria

When I do a search for African Violet, the system searches for 'african' and 'violet'. So, I get hits for anything that has those two words in the description . . . I'm sure that somewhere down the line a more 'advanced' search feature may be available.
