I bought eight 2 foot bushes and they are now 7 foot monsters (record year for rain - almost 10 inches in July alone). I trimmed them back early summer to about a foot tall and they've exploded, so much that the sidewalk is almost blocked.
I've seen some messages about deadheading butterfly bushes. After this round of blooms, could I cut them back a couple of feet just so we can reclaim the sidewalk?
I will do a massive cut back end of season, but, they're almost overwhelming right now...
Also, for next year - can I cut them back again early Summer to control the growth a bit.
