I recently visited the Homosassa Butterfly Garden in Homosassa, Fl. It was a most enjoyable education. I went home. looked in my parsley and sure enough there were all sizes of caterpillars that I was told would be Black Swallowtail butterfly. I watched as they gobbled away and became beautiful, yes, I said beautiful, but my parsley was going fast. Then the largest of the caterpillars were gone. Where or What happened????

Hopefully, they found a place to make a chrysalis and later you had a beautiful Black Swallowtail. If they were all gone I would be afraid they were eaten by birds, but if it was just the big ones, I think they we just moving into their next stage. Last year I had tons of Monarch caterpillars on my tropical butterfly weed (that's what I planted it for). They literally devoured it. then they disappeared. I couldn't find a single chrysalis, but there were so many Monarchs later that I think they must have survived and followed their normal course of development.
