| Would there be any harm in cutting the tops off my tomato plants? They just keep growing, getting flowers and it is already August. I have an abundance of tomatoes already set on all 1o plants and thought if I topped them off, more energy would go to the tomatoes already there. Anybody know? |

| I read somewhere on DG that there's at least one person who does top theirs off at 6 ft. They trim off everything below the first fruit spread, too. Then, it just starts bushing out sideways, but is more manageable that way.
I'm going to do this with the next crop of tomatoes I plant September 1. I'll cut the tip off at 6ft.
Hope this helps!

| I was wondering about doing this, too. Once the plants get over my head, it seems a little silly to let them keep going, and going... |

| I think StephanieTX does that also. I was wondering about it too, One of mine is bordering 8' tall now and is just way too tall to work with. |

| I've never topped mine but my dad always cut the terminal bud out of his when they got as tall as he wanted them. |

| Think I'll wait until the end of August - we shouldn't get frost until mid November here. I want the plants to set as many fruit as possible before then. I can always ripen the ones showing color and fry the green ones.
So far, we've picked well over 100 pounds of tomatoes, and this is only round one! I have to get out there this weekend, pick the rest of the ripe ones, and fertilize for round two! |

| I googled black tomatoes and got a seed company in Florida. I was looking for Black Russian and Cherokee Choclate. They had a whole list of black tomatoes, including your black cherrys. |

| Oooo - they sound "tasty" - are they? Dark colored fruits usually contain greater amounts of anthocyanins, so I'm always interested in growing food that contain antioxidants. |

| Jim41 - the seed you purchased - was it dated for 2010? I usually wait until January before ordering seed so I can get ones for the current year. |

| Tamargin,
Hold up just a minute. The way my unruly Black Cherries are growing, they should be to your place in about another week! |
