I am in the beginning stages of THINKING of having our old 1911 Craftsman Triplex repainted, and want to choose colors that will complement the greenery! I am thinking of a glaucous blue like Rosa Glauca and rust trim?? It has been pale grey with off white trim for 20 years and we are bored. I am attracted to greens, but does green paint clash with the plants? It is a huge house on a tiny street, with small cottage garden of roses, delphiniums zinnias etc out front. All ideas welcome!

Can you find any history on the house - what were the original colors? Check with the local historical society.

Watched enough "This Old House" shows to learn that there may have been 3-5 different colors used.

Great idea!

Aside from historical considerations, what about plants and house colors combined?

If you only replace the grey with the blue, and the white with the rust, it will be different, but I think you will find that it's still boring.

I would leave the columns white and paint the railings rust for a start. The grey is similar to the blue you want, so you would get a "preview" with less expense.

It looks like you have a red or stained door - mightt match that??

And, what are the hanging ball items?

As long as you're not painting your house some really bright color that's not normally used for houses I don't think you need to worry at all about any house color clashing with your plants. I don't think I've ever seen a house that looked like it clashed with the plants in front of it (not even some of the unusual colored ones). To me the thing to think about (besides historical considerations) is how much contrast you want between the house & the plants. With a green house or even with a grayish blue one, the foliage is going to tend to blend in with the house a bit when viewed from a distance, but your flower colors will pop (assuming they're not blue). Something more in the brown/tan/gold/off white color range will make the foliage stand out more.

Thank you for all of the great ideas! I have started walking around the neighborhood to get ideas, too.

A soft yellow with tobacco brown trim always looks nice to me. It would fit the style/age of the house as well.
Yellows work well with greenery.
You can try the Benjamin Moore paints web site, they have neat tools to help you choose colors. However, do not choose exact colors with your PC screen, they never look the same in real life.

Too nice a house to go green, think it would be camaflouged from the road. I'm with Sarahskeeper and ecrane a soft yellow would make it pop and the plant greenery would show up nicely. If green is a color of choice then maybe trim in a dark hunter green which is what mine is and love the contrast.

Beautiful home by the way! Good luck in paint colors. All colors compliment the garden :)
