Hi there,
I just pulled all my cukes because the cuke beatles had there way with them. Among everything else, they got what I called black-death. Now I see the cantalope(sp) are starting to have the same problem set in. The leaves get this black powder/mold on them and then it slowly envelopes the plant. I couldn't find anything on the net. Let me know if you all have an Idea, I can get pics of the lopes if needed.
Not a disease expert and especially not with melons. But I have had leaves slowly turn from green to brown and then finally black this year. I did some reading and the only thing that looks like a possibility is Anthracnose. I remove the infected leaves, spray and hope for the best. Good luck.
Well, I pulled everything.. When it was all said and done I really think it was the cuke bugs that killed everything. I could not kill all of them even when I went spraying them with 7-spray every other day. Next year I will use better tactics. Thanks
Ratfood - by 7-spray I assume you mean Sevin insecticide. This won't help if your plants have some kind of fungus or disease other than bacterial wilt spread by insects. Next year, try some kind of fungicide.
