My nieces cat has recently been diagnosed with diabetes. He is 13 years young and the sweetest little kitty. I noticed he had been losing weight and drinking lots of water. As I have a cat who is hyper thyroidal, I urged her to take him to the vet. She did and they discovered his blood sugar was 360.
They had him on a special diet for one week and have now started him on insulin. The vet tells her Sugar can live a few more years, provided the insulin works.
He has a sister named Spice. Should they be worried about her becoming diabetic as well? She is showing no symptoms.
I know that Sugar's chances are greatly increased by catching this early and I think I need the reassurance more than she does. LOL
