| I've been working all summer on this project. It's still not done, but getting there so I thought I'd show you what I'm up to!
After replacing all the windows in my old house I was left with a bunch of old windows AND WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THEM!
Well, I started playing around laying weeds and such on them and them spray painting them.
I wanted a privacy screen for my old clawfoot bathtub. ~~ so the windows became my screen. It's quite a mess but if you plant flowers around anything it will look good... so heres the front. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| With great effort we had a hot tub/spa for some 13 years. Enjoyed while it lasted but eventually required more repair than worth it so we advertised on Craig's List and it was gone in 24 hours. Also have some great pictures of grandchildren enjoying it.
Now that is the way to enjoy!

| Yes, I bet the hottub was great.
I work long and hard out in my garden and I just thought it would be nice to leave all that dirt outside at the end of the day. I'm also working on an outside shower. I have the water hook-up but don't have an enclosure around it yet.
Grandkids love this too!

| OH I want, I want I want I WANT ONE!!!! I just love that commerical where the couple is sitting outside in two claw foot tubs watching the sun go down.. Hmm I think its a male inhancement (sp?) lol commerical but love the idea of tubs sitting outside.. and you have taken it to the next girly level!!! How about hot water how did you run it to the tub? Oh you need some fancy fake hot and cold water knobs to go on there.. Like the old time kind..
OH I have to show this to my 9 yr old...
List of things to look for.. Old bathtub.. and windows.. Oh man if I only I had taken the old tub from the house we owned/lived in 9 years ago.. lol.. it would have been perfect...
Thank you for sharing your ideas and pictures...
Ohhhhhhhhhh and my birthday is in a few days, Do you think if I ask my family for this they will have time to get me one?? lol.. OH starting to think of where I can place one in the yard.. Thanks for posting... Your idea has really sparked me!!!

| BANGS HEAD against wall... THUMP THUMP BANG.. Grrr I showed pictures to DH and I was shocked at what he said.. Of course him being a MAN he didn't get the whole outdoor spa thing.. He said, being the man in the family do you know what that looks like to me, a great place for people to hide behind and jump out and attack you when you come home. Hide behind with guns.. I was just sitting here with a shocked look on my face.. thinking WTH?? and where did that come from?? .. He then said as the man of the family I have to make sure you girls are safe.. So I told him FINE I will sit NAKED in my (when I find one) TUB out in the yard for everyone to see...Not that anyone would, since we basically live in the woods... OMG MEN... I really really know what he was thinking.. UH HUH if I try to scare her and put it to her this way it will get me out of doing a lot of this work.. lol...
Gesh I guess this means he will be tearing down the garage and that big wood fence that runs down part of the property.. What about all those huge HUGE oak trees in the yard.. Geesh anyone can hide behind those things!!

| Hi Guys! Thank you for all the nice comments! I loved it!! And especially enjoyed reading yours Janice... MEN! Can't live with em... can't kill em! lol
Seriously I know other people who think that way (that bathing outside is scary) But, ever since I watched the movie "The Secret" I understand "The Law of Attraction" if you think that way that's what you get... This is oversimplyified of course but is true on so many levels. I totally belive it. This little outside bathing area is meant to be a relaxing way to enjoy nature and reclaim you soul. (and of course get clean from all that gardening) At least for me it is and I won't let any negative thoughts enter my head. It helps that I live 14 miles from town on an old farm and have one neighbor across the street who are a real nice couple and don't think I'm crazy.
Maybe Janice if you promise hubby a midnight bath together on a starry night you will get some interest going ?? candles lit... bubbles... wine... get that thought in his head
But, don't get rid of the hubby for the tub... remember you need men to lift heavy stuff, and change you oil, open jars... you know all that stuff! lol!!!
By the way I've had that tub for at least 20 yrs sitting in my yard and have wanted to do this ... it finally came together this summer and I love it, have had many late night baths myself and enjoy watching the grandkids enjoy it. |

Yep you guessed it, he said baby if you really want that outdoor spa that's okay and I was just thinking of you girls... Hmmm once again I know what he is thinking,, yea where she gonna find a tub like that.. lol... but he did come up to me and say it was fine...
Oh and Lou, The only TV hubby watches is Sports.. :-)
Funny he wasn't worried about the whole being naked out the yard and someone walking up, he was worried if we came home from town and while trying to unlock the door to get in they would JUMP/spring out from behind it.. lol.. Anyhow, I couldn't really use windows for the screen area.. I'm so scared of sheets of glass breaking and getting cut (old injury) but lattice (sp?) will do perfect for me.. or some thing along those lines.. that is if I ever find a tub..
Oh and Nanaka, Thanks for the wine, soaking under the stars idea.. I was ready to pull that out and use it on him but didn't need to.. lol..

| I got the tub at Goodwill at least 20 yrs ago for $20.00. The cement thing under it is my old well. I had a well down in a pit and it went dry last winter and I had to have a new one. 6 thousand $ later I had a new well and had my yard all torn up and an old well that I had to be filled in.
We filled it with sand first and then poured cement in the top 2 feet. The yard was all torn up anyway so I decided I might as well plant flowers around. (dont need more grass to mow!) The rest sort of just happened. I wasn't sure if I could really take baths out there or not. But I'm getting used to it!! And the outside shower is wonderful!
Hurray for you Janice! that hubby has agreed... Good Luck finding a tub! |

20$ for that tub is unbelieveable!!! You lucky thing. There is this amazing store down near the beach in Barnegat NJ, can't remember the name off the top of my head, but it is based in an old mansion, and the inside and out are full of salvaged stuff from old homes, mansions, buildings - everything from crystal door knobs to tin ceiling tiles to garden statuary, big old wooden fireplace mantels, old paneling and woodwork, and doors and tubs, old sinks - I could spend a whole day in this place. Looking forward to when I can buy some stuff to put in my home.

| My step grandma ,after gramps died went to work in a hugh laundry that did commercial stuff and uniforms . She lived across the street from work , in a one room apt and had to go to work even if she was sick .No S.S back then and one day she slipped to the floor dead , in front of her ironing machine .I remember her telling me she made 9.00 dollars a week . She couldn't read or write and it was the only job she could get . Her legs were purple from standing on her feet and she was in her 80's too . A nursing home with food would have been a blessing for her . I'll just take a big dose of rat poison .

| Did you secure the windows with posts/cement?
I am getting "into" the idea of doing a few as privacy areas or focal points in a few places in the garden. I love the idea of the tub, too, but my hot water supply would have to come from my basement on a seasonal basis, and I would have to wear a swim suit because of the way my in-town lot is situated. Still, it's a soothing thought after a hot day in the garden just to relax the muscles and rinse off, but I would also have to clear a garden area to add it close to the water supply. I just have to figure out if I would use it often enough to make it worth hunting down a tub, redoing an area, and how the tub will look while it isn't being used. I am wondering about debris from my trees and such making it look too ratty when not in use, and that maybe it would need a cover in the winter months, etc. |

| I WISH I had seen this thread before we let a neighbor take the old claw foot tub from hubby's grandmother's house. Nanaka, your idea is an inspiration! It was post-Katrina and there was just so much debris to get out, so I all thought when I saw that huge tub at the time was "heavy big tub and nobody to lift it and no way to haul it home and no place to put it!" We were all so exhausted then; my imagination had just shut down. Sheesh, now I see the prices of these and what you did with yours and I'm just kicking myself. |

If you can do it in Wisconsin, there is no excuse for me on the weather, etc. I am gonna have to keep an eye out for a tub and think about it more. I still love both ideas - the tub and the windows used this way. |

| What an awesome place to take a bath!
Hubby and I are setting up the deer lease camp and I told him about your natural spa. I'm more of a bath taker than a shower taker and I have a huge old bathtub in my backyard that I use to mix soil in. I told him I want to move it out to the lease so I can take a bath out there. He said, Good Luck moving that monster. Besides that, there is no hot water out there so you'd be taking a cold bath. Doggone it... it was such a good idea...

| Janet, Look in Cabela's catalog or any of the other sports ones, or Bass Pro Shop and see if you can find one of the bags that you either lay or hang in the sun to heat the water. Actually the tub itself would get warm pretty fast in your Texas sun. I am assuming you don't want to bathe in it outside in the winter time. :>) |

| Ric, Showed me this thread and I just love it! The whole thing, the windows, tub and garden what a wonderful get away. We live out in the country, we have some neighbors that can view the back yard but not many and some of my plantings are starting to get big enough to fix that. I have wanted an outside shower for years and even have the perfect spot. Many years ago there was a article on outside bathing with pics of different shower areas in Martha Steward Living. I still plan on putting in my outside shower one of these days. This is the spot that I have planned. That bump out on the house is the laundry room and it would be very easy to tap in to the hot and cold pipes in that spot. All I need is a little something on the 2 open sides so I don't shock the neighbors. LOL Click the image for an enlarged view.

| Good thinking Elena.
We've already talked about how to heat up water, just as you suggested. We've got a huge drum that we'd planned on making into a rain barrel. Originally it held olives. A whole BUNCH of olives. Anyhow, it needs a bulkhead and a shower type head and it will be used for our solar shower. No reason the guys couldn't step into the tub to take a shower. (wriggling eyebrows here) Perhaps the bathtub could be do-able, afterall!!! Hmmmm... now if I can just get the guys to haul it out there to the lease... I'm liking this idea a whole lot!!! There are plenty of pine trees around to hide the bathing.
HollyAnn, your tub area is wonderful. Love that red around the tub. Mine is icky looking on the outside and the inside. I'm seeing some camoflage paint in my future. What kind of paint did you use on yours? And has it held up well for you?

| Dark colors in/on the water container would heat the water faster in the sun. Please remember this thread when you do decide on something. I am dying to know what you do. | LOL, There are only a couple of neighbors that can view the back yard and I don't think any of them would be interested in checking out my aged body. LOL There are plans for a Greenhouse to be built right next to that bump out and it would make the 3rd wall with only the end open. The I had been thinking that the shower would probably be installed about that time. Right now we are doing remodeling work on the laundry room so lately I have been thinking when they put in the new pipes for the washer I just might have the shower installed too. |

| I've been collecting "stuff" all week long. We're "moving in" probably tomorrow or Saturday, depending on what time he finishes working tomorrow. At this point, if we don't have it, we don't need it! HAHAHA I've only got 3 things left on my list to acquire tomorrow.
I'll be taking photos all weekend long. Not sure exactly how long well be out there. For sure one night, and maybe two. There is a grocery store not far from the camp (about 4 miles) and we can replenish ice, etc. if we have to.
We're going to be putting in a "kitchen work area", replace the hideous window by the door, work on a section of the floor that is rotted by the door... in addition to putting out 2 feeders and 2 cameras and reinforcing the newest blind.
The shower/bath will come later, but at least he's gotten more receptive to the idea. As long as I don't badger him about it while he's got this major thing going on, it will probably happen, sooner or later. For now, I'm taking some water jugs and going to set them in the sun to heat. I'll have a bucket that I can use to "bathe" with.

I have a big tub and I'm going to put it outside and not worry about it being one of the old fashion ones. I think if you put enough plants and neat things around the base it shouldn't matter. Thanks for sharing your neat photos and ideals with the rest of us.
By the way, I'm not asking dear hubby, I'm just going to do it and then see what he says. Thank goodness I live in the country and have very few people drop by that could see me. If anyone saw me out there they would probably have a heart attack from the sight. LOL

But Ric had a serious hand injury in June and that put an end to any summer projects for several months. He has been doing a good bit of gardening and moved some RR ties for me last week for a new bed I put in. I think he may be able to start on the gazebo area where we are enlarging the brick patio. But serious digging and laying cinder blocks will not be something he will be doing this year. |

The saw did get a bite out of two of the bones on the thumb and index finger but thanks to the angle didn't cut completely thru them. There is a large chunk of bone missing from the thumb. The bone in the index finger was shaved down along the side and is bit narrower towards the tip, there was a lot of tissue damage. It's been about 8 weeks now and has been healing very well. He has been very good about doing everything that the doctor wanted and is still going to PT 3 times a week. |

This during a shop class!

I am a stickler for safety!
Still accidents do happen.
I 'nailed' two fingers together on our deck build last month.
Luckily it was a small gauge finish nail and their was no bone involvement.
Pure Bad Luck!

Two more men in our neighborhood trimmed trees soon after my DH did - one was in the hospital and rehab for several months and the other one died. My spouse just had stitches in the base of his nose where the limb hit him in the face.
