I went to Lowe's to look for Weld bond. Is it a 2-part epoxy glue. I was hoping not. I didn't know what I was looking for. I got some glue; StrongStix. I have used 527 cement glue but it bubbles on the edges. I used it outside and the temp. was high. I figured that probably had something to do with it. Here is a pic I did with one of my butterflies. I love to glue the gemstones to it. Just have to find the right glue. Will silicone work? I want to to look right. Got the general ideas of what to do by wating this forum and I want to think you all.

Mornin Ride. I would suggest using GEII. I use this for just about all my mosaics. It can be found at Lowes,HD, Wally, Ace etc. I have used this on stepping stones and bowling balls with no probs yet.

Thank you, katzoe. I will look for it. The Strongstixs did not turn clear. It held good but it was white. After I put the cement over it, It was o.k. I will try to load finished pic of one I started yesterday. I finised it up this morning, started another.

finished! Looks different with the "grout" on, doesn't she? Loaded faster this afternoon, than when I tried this morning. Strange isn't it?
That's a Buddha hanging above her. Haven't tried anything with him yet.

I buy the weld bond off e-bay, they have some very good deals there, I just got 2 big tubes for less than 20.00, and from all the professional mosaic sites, that's what I was taught to use, and so far so good, but there are other glues out there, that I'm not familiar with, so... I stand to learn from this discussion too! here's a birdhouse I've had outside for over a year, and it's holding up good as new. I need to unpack some of my other finished mosaics, as I have them packed away, and in all the discussions on here, I keep adding the same pictures! Sorry, for anyone who's' familiar with my work, I'll unpack and post some other items I have finished. I just want to help guide those who have questions, and I've been doing Mosaics for 3 years,I'm no pro, but my stuff is holding up. I also use polyurethane on my outside stuff, it helps preserve it.

and here's another view of the bird house! This has been through a lot of winds form the beach, as in salt air doing the sand blasting thing, lots of rain, But no cold, I think the lowest temps we've had in the winter is a short spell of 20 degrees, in the winter months, but a very short burst of cold, as when the soon comes up it does go up to the 60's+- some.

rides, I just left you on the other thread, yeah, I think the snake went in to see if there were any bird eggs in there, I keep looking for him, but haven;t seen him in there lately, and no, I'm not going to pull the bird house closer to get a better look, lol. The bird house's I get from HD, they have them in wood, all you have to do is paint them or put your mosaic art work on them. But I know you can build some pretty neat houses, different kinds than you can buy I'm sure. I think I bought this one from HD, maybe wally world, hmmm! Look in their art department, I know they have the smaller "for looks only" one's but now I'm wondering? I'll get back to you on this one!

I have noticed that many of you live in a warmer climate than I do. I am just outside of Chicago so it can get pretty cold. What I need to find out is what glue will stand up to thunder storms, snow, ice, and cold. Another thing I am not too clear on is what cement and grout to use for outside. When I make something for my garden, that is exactly where it will stay - year around. I know this stuff has been discussed over and over so please accept my apology for bringing it up again. I only just realized that most of you are from warm places - lucky you! If there are any mosaic fans from the Chicago area I would like to hear from them

Haveyou tried a silicone type that is used in bathrooms. sometimes if you go to hd they wil have different glues and explains where and what conditions they can stand. I used to live in Mo. so I have an idea of the sort of weather you have to ENDURE. Good luck.

ridesredmule - did you make your butterflies - say maybe from pottery? They are very lovely.

Mableruth...I am making a mosaic on my bathroom wall so it will get very wet, hot and cold because of the shower water. I use the same "thinset" that alot of people use when laying their ceramic floor tile. I buy it premixed (like Paste) from Lowes - not the expensive kind, the cheaper brand. It is supposed to be waterproof and sets well in heat and cold. Ask the guy at Lowes - he will know about the temps.
