I loved your article! I don't say that often. [g] My son enjoys succulents and cacti and I have refrained from giving advice despite my 30 years of gardening experience, because it is a group of plants I've never tried. We don't have as much sun as I thought was needed, I thought the containers should be shallow and I thought that might be the reason for some of the problems I see him having, but I refrained from researching it and giving him advice, because he enjoys learning from his own mistakes. Now I see, there are more than one reason for failures and some of my guesses at why were off the mark. Your article really helped me relax more about it because you are so comfortable about the 'failures' of some of your plants and pots. I do want to pass along the tip about adding 40-50% perlite or pumice to the soil though. I think that might help a lot. I enjoyed looking at all these lovely pots and I am excited now to try one. Thanks very much! :-)
Geof, Thanks for a great article.
I have been thinking about making a dish cacti garden but could'nt imagine exactly what i wanted untill i saw your pictures. The small rocks are a must have and i've got the rocks.
The info on growing was helpful too.

I really get a great kick out of Geoff's articles. They are informative, fun and not at all preachy. I have the same attitude about cacti and succulents - never met one I didn't want! Thanks Geoff - keep 'em coming.
