I have a few peony plants and for the past two years (I'm not sure before that), the plant flowers and blossoms appear, but right before they open up, they turn black and die. I'm not sure if they are not getting enough sun to open up the blossoms? The plants look healthy and are spreading like they should. But the flowers just never open up.
