| I've been looking for ideas & inspiration using tumbled glass in the garden. Has anyone used either glass or other brightly colored materials in your garden?

| I haven't, think its just too scary for me LOL. I love bright colors in hardscape, furniture etc but so far I have very little of that. Is the tumbled glass sharp, I saw it at the LBJ wild flower center in TX and it seemed a bit too jagged for me. Your pic has inspired me to come up with some brightly colored garden objects of my own... |

| The tumbled glass is not sharp at all! It's smooth around the edges. Believe me if it was a danger in anyway, I would not use it with 2 playful dogs and my 4 year old niece & 2 year old nephew running around the yard.
Now that I've had the tumbled glass in the garden for about a month now, I wanted to mention a couple of minor considerations.
I live in San Francisco which has a very moderate climate year round.
We have however had a few "scorching" hot days (by SF standards) this summer with temp reaching the 80s & 90s~ I would not recommend using the tumbled glass as mulch in flower beds or containers in direct sun in hotter weather climates since the glass gets very hot and could burn the plants. I used some of the left over blue glass as mulch in a couple of containers and had to move them to a shady spot on those hot days. Luckily, I noticed it by mid morning, so the plants are alive & well!
There is an enormous Monterey Cypress on the property next to ours that towers right over my yard and the litters little cones & debris into the glass. It's not a big deal and doesn't detract from how it looks. I haven't had to clean it out yet as it still looks stunning & beautiful to my eyes but I know the damp, windy weather that's approaching will bring with it "green" debris. So just thought I'd mention if you have any littering trees really close, make sure whatever they drop is relatively easy to clean out like dry leaves instead of something else like berries or fruit. //(*_*)

| I have used the large decorative glass stones you buy in the craft stores that come in mesh bags. I used them in my garden fountains and koi pond. They look beautiful and last through the cold winters here at the Jersey Shore. They shine in the water and look lovely! They come in a large variety of colors. |

| Oh that is so beautiful, unique and clever. At first I thought I was looking at a water feature with blue tile on the bottom. Very creative! :-) |

You can try looking online on ebay or even craig's list. I'm lucky to have a place here in San Francisco where they tumble glass & sell by the pound. I bought 10 lbs for the area pictured and it was more than enough for a layer that was 2 inches thick so there are no bare spots. I had some left over to put in pots too but I would only recommend succulents & cacti for tumbled glass in outdoor pots & containers due to the sun heating up the glass. |

| thanks Miss415. Your point is well taken with our intense heat. I am thinking of creating just a few paths and cover them with the tumbled glass with different colors some day. |
