Its summer, getting on to late summer now, and wild life is everywhere even in urban areas.
We live 3 miles out of the city on a rural scenic road that abuts a wildlife preserve, and the houses around here are all set in trees and stuff.
This is what we had on our road today at about 5:30pm. An Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake. It almost got one of my dogs while I was out walking them. It was between 4-5 ft and has over 13 rattles in its tail. One of our neighbors came over with a homemade noose, managed to get it into a large rubber container, and drove it somewhere else to release it where there weren't any kids or dogs. This is the second one we have removed in the last 5 years, and the third one of this size we have seen.
I almost, ALMOST did not see this snake until it could have bitten my dog. The little Jack Russell we have barely measures 14" from tip of nose to tip of tail, it could have swallowed her! If one of them had been bitten, or heaven forbid if I had, it would have been a very tragic thing. Please be careful in your yards!! You never know what's just out of sight in the underbrush.
I put myself in the photo for scale and took it with a timer.
