I need some advice please. More often than not my grout cracks when it dries. I follow the packet instructions to the T and I've tried different brands of grout. Sometimes the cracks get really big, but mostly its hairline cracks. This has happens on plastic, glass and wood surfaces.
If the gaps between tiles are really small, then it doesn’t happen, but I can’t always have small gaps between tiles. What am I doing wrong?
I've found that my grout gets hairline (or sometimes larger) cracks when the mix has a little too much water in it to begin with, or if I don't keep it covered with a damp towel for the first few days while it cures. Others will probably have different reasons, but that's been my experience.
Are you using sanded grout? Non-sand grout is meant for areas I believe around 1/8 inch. If you use non-sanded grout in areas bigger than that it will crack every time.
