Thanks for the great article
I live in SW Ontario and have two of these in pots - the first one I purchased at a local green house about 18 years ago - I always thought I had it in the wrong window, but I chose the one with the most sunlite - I'd transplant it - change the soil - transplant again - for the first 10 years - then I read it doesn't like that - so I stopped transplanting it - it's in a 10 by 15 deep inch pot and has been for the past 8 years - still never flowered - It's terribly root bound - you can see the groves of it's thick roots protruding through the thin plastic pot - root bound! - I feel bad for it - we moved for the 6th time - (2004) and again I put it in the brightest window - which happened to be over a heat vent - and It flowered!! for the first time! I was so excited!!! - the other one a friend gave it to me (7 years ago) because she thought it was a boring plant (didn't flower for her) - so I thought I'd transplant it - since it was only 7 years old I figured I had at least 10 more years to wait ...and it flowered the following April (transplant time approx. september) both flowered in April - and don't flower during the summer out on the deck. I'm not a frequent fertilizer person - I water 1ce a week - so I think the magic ingredient was the extra heat - since I had never placed it on a table over a heat vent before - I've had these plants for decades! - and that's the only thing different that I've done - I hope this helps some of the Indoor growers of this magnificant plant - It's truly exciting when you first realize IT's GOING TO FLOWER!!!...Maybe not for you folks in warmer climates who get to see it on a regular basis - and they actually grow in your outdoor gardens...I wish!...but for me - It was like an 18 year - brand new baby!...excited! ...ask anyone who walked into my house when they were flowering - They all knew about the 18 year old baby in the house :)
