I am trying to help a friend on a budget to beautify her yard, and she has some ugly concrete block walls lining one side of her property that would REALLY benefit from some hanging containers. Does anyone have a low-cost idea?
Thanks for any help.
Here is some of my fence hanging baskets lot are little blastic baskets I get at the dollar shops some have pots in them some have plastic bags with soil plants growing in it could put the big pots along in front . I painted sheets of old tin to add colour really she could use any thing to hang .

Right now is a great time to find bargains, on seasonal items.I went looking for cheap pots one day, and stopped at Ace Hardware to see if they had a plant that I wanted, marked down yet.The had everything annual for FREE. Most of the plants were in horrible shape, but I picked up some great hanging baskets, and gallon plastic terrecotta(misp) colored pots. Just dumped them and cleaned them up.Went to Walmart the same day, and picked up some larger hanging baskets for $1 each(with geraniums that I can winter over), and two very pretty 3 gallon pots full of nasty looking annuals, for $2 each. I came home that day feeling great! Free is very Good!

Depends on how cheap she needs to be but: 1. use discarded light covers (glass) that have a small opening on one end and a wider opposite. Put a little coco matting in the bottom to hold the soil in. Use wire, chain, nylon cord, whatever you can to create a hanger that goes underneath the "bowl". If you need to, glue it in place. 2. OR if you need to get cheaper than that, use coffee cans or whatever kind of big cans you can get hold of...spray paint them and attach a hanger through holes you punch in the sides near the top. Be sure to punch holes in the bottom for drainage. 3. Look in thrift shops/yard sales for interesting wire baskets, add some coco matting OR sphagnum moss with weed barrier with holes to hold in the soil. Use wire, chain, cord, jute to make a hanger if it doesn't have a handle. 4. I like to use old pots/pans or metal buckets, especially if they are colorful or the old graniteware looking kind. If they have rusted out in places, even better, don't have to drill holes. Just add some coco matting or small rocks in the bottom and add soil. Fashion a hanger if you want. Sometimes I just put a black plastic pot inside the decorative pot I want to use and you don't have to worry about putting matting or rocks in it.
Maybe this will give her a few possible options or ideas to spark her imagination.
Dutchlady check out your local Dollar General. I found these basket for $2.50 original price was $5.00. (12 inch hanging basket)
They have everything marked down 50%. I couldn't pass these up. Lowes also have certain garden products 50% too. I found a basket to hang on my mailbox post for $3.00 also a 12 inch.
sammut...That photo of your fence is wonderful! We're adding things to our ugly fence little by little. I love the "free spirit" you display in all your lovely, fun creations!

Hi Sylvia,
Here is a space where I have hidden some fence and made it seem highter { before all my out look was looking at the washing in yard behind me.} put up a roll of reed cover looks like bamboo but very cheap -- the chairs were curb find and covered and lots of pots now a nice green relaxing corner. ----------Elaine.
