September 19th 9-10:30 a.m. 5th annual News-Herald Fall Plant Exchange. The News Heralds parking lot, One Heritage Drive, Southgate, 48195 come renew old friendships and make some new friends while trading you plants. If any garden clubs or garden related groups would like to participate please call me at 313-719-1181.

Mark you calendars for September 19th, as part of the News Herald Fall Plant Exchange we’ll be looking for the best tasting tomato in the downriver area. The 1st annual Tomato Tasting Contest will be held. We’ve assembled an esteemed panel of judges and have some great prizes including Brunch and Dinner at the Fairlane Club.

Here are the rules for the contest:

Tomatoes must be grown by entrants in their home gardens.

Variety of tomato must be identified

Only 2 varieties per entrant please.

Tomatoes will be judged on texture and flavor.

This will be a blind taste test, entrants will not be revealed until judging is completed.

Please make sure that your tomatoes are washed, and labeled with your name and phone number.

Decisions of the judges will be final
