My mom is recently experiencing mobility issues, which is keeping her in the house much of the time, although she does venture into the garden as much as she can. Sje jas a large picture window over-looking the front yard, where I am putting a bright cottage-style garden with roses, iris, daylilies, coneflowers and other pretty blooms. She loves peonies, but I have never had success with them.
I feel like I'm drowning in all the information here, and would like a simple answer to the questions:
1. What kind of soil preparation should I give them prior to planting and post-planting?
2. Where can I find a reasonable supply of some colorful peonies (I'm not picky about the colors or kinds, since I am a COMPLETE newbie here, but she loves pinks and yellows). I am a full-time college student on unemployment, and she is on social security, so our finances do not allow for much.
3. When is the best time to plant in my zone 3/4? I read that fall is a good time to plant, but the local greenhouses don't have any supply that I can see, so I'm probably going to have to order, which is usually more expensive.
4. Will there be an autumn peony co-op here on DG? I'm a new member so I don't know how things go here through the year.
5. Is there a reputable seller from ebay who would sell at a decent price & have good, healthy stock that is true-to-form?
Okay, I think that's it. If anyone wants to try to do a trade, I'd be more than happy, but I'm running out of things that I can split this late in the season. Try me, and we'll see what we can work out.
