My two Dr. Wyche's Yellow plants are finally in full production, an incredible 112 days after transplanting.

This is an heirloom variety all right, huge, oddly-shaped, sometimes with green shoulders - but the flavor is great!

I've read that Dr. Wyche was a dentist who owned a travelling circus in the 1940's and '50's. The circus spent winters at his farm in Oklahoma, and Dr. Wyche developed this tomato variety and fertilized his garden every year with elephant and lion manure from the previous winter.

My German Red Strawberry plants are just as late, they're producing heavy now too. I crossed those two varieties this season and I'll try growing the hybrid next year. Whatever the hybrids are like, they sure won't be early tomatoes.

With this picking, I think I'll make a batch of Dr. Wyche's Yellow Garden Salsa!
